Since LBJ progressives have been pandering to blacks, and allowing the black race baiters to eat the crumbs from the table, while stiffing blacks on the real issues that matter. Common comes out for an issue that matters. The solution to the public school crisis is to allow all schools to become charter schools, to make choices on all aspects of the educational experience based on parent, teacher, and first tier administrator (Principals) assessment of what is the best course of action.
The money should be attached to the tunic of each child each semester, and whichever school attracts the students receives the cash. This terrifies unions because they understand that this will mean more teacher accountability, and all unions do is protect the incompetent, and create system which require the continued involvement of the union, thus protecting the union boss/employee sinecures. Students are not even an ancillary though in the minds of these people.
If blacks want the same kind of education that runs through the well healed white suburbs, they will need to dismantle the progressives, especially the Democrat party progressives since it is they who benefit the most from the current graft, and corruption system. I do not know if this requires a new third party which will eventually consume one of the current parties like the Republican party consumed the Whig party, but this seems the mostly likely option. The second option is an internal revolution within one of the parties.
Peter Gray, Ph.D. has a few ideas on the subject.
Children Educate Themselves III: The Wisdom of Hunter-Gatherers
As does Sir Ken Robinson:
Good luck the entire progressive establishment is against you on this one. While I am firmly in your court, many are not, and would love to see you lose this battle. They care more for power, then the lives of the children they would damage.
