Pope on a Rope: Islam not Terror

Pope says Islam is not terrorism

He then goes on to establish without doubt that he has the analytical skills of a hamster. "If I have to talk about Islamic violence I have to talk about Christian violence. Every day in the newspapers I see violence in Italy, someone kills his girlfriend, another kills his mother-in-law, and these are baptized Catholics." What a dimwit.

More below the fold.

Daniel Pipes has a few words about Islam

In the Immortal Words of Daniel Pipes…

Read the whole thing, but also click through to the underlying article, it has a bit more to offer.

Pipes and I are approximately on the same page. I think the war of reformation will happen between the Shia primarily Iran, and the Sunni, primarily the House of Saud. I think the former are more likely to success, but that is yet open for debate. Regardless, both need to be reformed in heat of the reformational forge. Until they are there is danger of a serious conflict involving not just the Islamic nations, but the West and others as well.

Five months of war, 500 years of tears

Somme 'Iron Harvest' will take 500 years to clear, say bomb disposal experts on centenary of bloody battle

This was one of the world's great mistakes. Military leaders experienced before the industrial age, fighting a war with industrial age weapons, resulting in shocking numbers of killed and wounded. It was as if the generals has fashioned two huge grinders and marched their soldiers into them.

The battle ranged from 1 July to 18 November, 1916, with total casualties of 1,088,907 (both sides). The war changes Europe culturally, socially, religiously, and politically. The reverberations are still felt today.

Pray for peace.

The ordeal of Omaha Beach

Difficult but mandatory reading, to understand the cost of liberty. The ending is exactly correct. Films like "Saving Private Ryan" and "Band of Brothers" captured this quality of leadership perfectly.

D-Day Orders to the men aboard PC-565

Getting ready for D-Day

"' . . . Anne Wilson has a copy of the D-Day orders passed onto her father’s ship in May of 1944. Here is the briefing all members of the United States Navy received just two weeks before D-Day, June 6, 1944.” I thought readers would enjoy a look at this bracing call to duty . . . "

Made all the more bracing with Maddogsson in Marine Corps Boot Camp.

Maddogsdatir5.faux, and I watched Saving Private Ryan for her final english assignment. It seems Korean students learn mostly about Korean history, but little else. She has little knowledge or understanding of the greater span of world history. We have moved on to Band of Brothers, and will likely attempt to span as much Western History in film as we can during the summer break.

Tragic story about Americans at war, why they fight, and how many died

Why They Died: The Motivations of American Soldiers in 12 Great Wars

The story is worth a read.

But there is another story lying within. It is the story of how much importance Americans place on life. Notice how many of the wars resulted in few deaths. The comparisons are truly stunning.

The National WWII Museum | New Orleans: Learn: For Students: WWII by the Numbers: World-Wide Deaths

Few of the nations involved in WWII were free, it is clear that free markets, with republican governance, with substantial individual liberties value life far more than dictatorships, empires, totalitarians, or other autocratic governance.

One of the primary reasons for the success of the Pax Americana is the successful American export of free markets, republican governance, and individual liberties. Now is no time to follow the Obama lead, and withdraw from this most important endeavor.
