We have reached peak alternative power in a system which needs dispatchable power generation systems6/6/2016 British Renewables Chief: “England is not Windy Enough” Alternative power is the power of the future, the problem with that is we live in the present. This circle cannot be squared today. More after the jump. "England is not windy enough to justify building any more onshore wind turbines, the chief executive of wind industry trade body has admitted.
Hugh McNeal, who joined RenewableUK two months ago from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, insisted the industry could make the case for more onshore turbines in some parts of the UK, despite the withdrawal of subsidies. But he said this would “almost certainly” not be in England, as the wind speeds were not high enough to make the projects economically viable without subsidy." Actually we should not limit this to wind, neither wind, nor solar alternative energy sources reduce carbon use. "As we reflected on the project, we came to the conclusion that even if Google and others had led the way toward a wholesale adoption of renewable energy, that switch would not have resulted in significant reductions of carbon dioxide emissions. Trying to combat climate change exclusively with today’s renewable energy technologies simply won’t work . . . " It gets worse. Alternative energy siting, construction and infrastructure build out frequently result in zero or negative carbon capture from the generated electricity. Wind farms will create more carbon dioxide, say scientists This does not even take into account habitat destruction, and the wholesale bird deaths which commonly result from alternative energy. US windfarms kill 10-20 times more than previously thought New Wind Energy Permits Would Raise Kill Limit of Bald Eagles I must say ABC goes full Newspeak on this one. Apparently the only way to save the eagles is to kill eagles, lots of eagles. This is not conservation, this is simply religious dispensation. The climate pope has given dispensation to allow the killings of many more eagles, because . . . the wind gods told them to, or some rubbish. California’s new solar power plant is actually a death ray that’s incinerating birds mid-flight | ExtremeTech Rewrite this as a natural gas power plant and attempt to make sense of the story, you can't, no government would allow natural gas to kill this many birds. Without the secular environmental religion giving dispensation to the solar and wind gods, there would be no mass bird killing machines, because the fines would shut them down. The US is meeting our Kyoto protocols carbon goals, without even having ratified the protocol. USA meets Kyoto protocol goal – without ever embracing it This has less to do with "killing the economy" and more to do with swapping coal power generation for natural gas. We have reached peak wind, and peak solar, we just haven't recognized it yet. Perhaps in the future these sources will become reasonable, until then best reduce them to research only.
