Two of my favorite economists delaminate protectionist, and minimum wage laws with ethical, moral, and rational arguments
Protectionism and minimum wage laws: They're both reprehensible and ethically indefensible forms of 'legal plunder' - AEI
This will never persuade the progressive, however. True believers are essentially religious, and religion cares not for others morality, and rational arguments will never effect whether by dint, or dent.
For the rest of us, these arguments are the core reason for vehemently disagreeing with any protectionist measures, or minimum wage law. These laws do not do what they allege, to the contrary, they do the opposite. They are immoral, rapacious, and usurp the rightful, moral place of the individual in the market.
Government cannot make us moral through immoral laws.
