Germany, USA and Canada ALL say they want special trade deals with post-Brexit Britain
What's crazy was the desire of these countries to incorporate the dilettante Southern European nations into the EU. It seems this was driven by the mistaken belief that if they were allowed in with debt restrictions, they would respond to the low interest rates, play by the rules, become more German like, the prosperity of the citizens would rise becoming a natural new market for German manufacturers. Instead, they simply took the Germans loans, spent the money on German manufactured items, and now cannot pay the debt back.
This would be the most prosperity inducing trade agreement in history. Now, can Obama figure this out, and do the deal before he leaves office? If this were even a remote possibility, Germany would need to seriously consider leaving the EU. The trade ramifications would be too great, or drag the EU into the agreement, which would likely infarct the protectionist French, Spanish, Italians, Greeks, Portuguese, among others.
"Germany is worried that France, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland and Hungary could also seek to leave the European Union after Britain's vote to quit the bloc, German newspaper Die Welt said on Friday, citing a finance ministry strategy paper.
The strategy paper recommended Germany, in coordination with the EU, offers Britain "constructive exit negotiations" aimed at making the UK an "associated partner country," the newspaper reported.
It estimated Germany's contribution to the annual EU budget could rise by 3billion euros once Britain exited the group."
As I have pointed out, Britain leaving will be a burden for Germany. And Germany needs British trade more than Britain needs German trade.
What we are seeing here are commonly know as stress cracks. They can be fatal.
