Sports Teams Score a Piece of the Ticket-Scalping Business
Until the teams think of a way to scalp tickets. [No, I don't believe ticket scalpers are a scourge, they perform an arbitrage function which can be valuable.]
The solution is for the team to sell tickets in auction form allowing anyone to buy tickets. You want two tickets down front, you simply bid on them and pay the price or decide it is too high. Brokers are allowed to bid as well. In the end, the team would recover the correct price for the ticket, brokers would be relegated to a side business, likely buying and reselling tickets for a tiny fraction of the bump they get today. And everyone would have a fair shake at getting a ticket.
But no, that is entirely too reasonable, so we have mispriced tickets being sold, and then scalped at great profit. Games are played, insiders are benefitted, bad things happen.
So stop it.
