The Case for Charters is Overwhelming
They like the status quo, they have power, money, and influence. They are important. They have no interest in what is best for students, or what would make education work better. That would only interfere with their access to power.
The solution for education will require the elimination or reformation of the teachers unions, and returning more power to the local school, and parents. In essence, the charterization of all schools. This will likely require the dismantling, at least to a great extent, the school districts. We can do this using the new gig economy concepts but we are not yet ready to do so.
Our current course is to continue to charterize schools allowing them to find the best way forward at the local school level. As this becomes more common, we will likely see some schools rebelling at the school districts restrictions, and mandates. As they separate, they will convert some of the functions into the gig economy. As this slowly becomes more acceptable, and the results are high quality, it will accelerate.
We stand at the edge of a great, and freeing change, but are too conservative to make the leap.
