Here's the moment when I realized how miraculous self-driving technology really is
The cool factor. This is like the first iPhone, when we heard about the phone, it sounded cool, but once we used it for a hour or so, we were sold, and so was the phone, in droves.
And so will be the app hailed/share ride/self drive car.
It will take about a decade after penetration reaches 20% of daily trips for the form of the vehicles to sort itself out, and then another decade to fully implement, so it will be quick. This happened with the auto, the first autos looked suspiciously like carriages, and even into the 1920s autos had an open drivers compartment and an enclosed rear seating compartment. This was silly since the driver did not need access to horses, but the convention remained. Then it disappeared, forever.
Is it too soon to begin forecasting the on demand, short distance pentacopter? For quick trips out to the airport. Cue the naysaying!
Ok, let's hope it is a bit more comfortable than this!
