Go watch the Searchers, it does a very good job of portraying the Sigma Outsider, the man who builds, and creates civilization, but who cannot live within its framework. The Seven Samurai, and The Magnificent Seven also played upon this dynamic. This remake seems to have lost this element. Why bother watching a film which so misunderstands human nature, and the essentially basic elements of personality, and character.
This is a two dimensional cartoon depiction of the human condition, it is a failure to accept that the people paying to view this dreck are intelligent, capable people, who have lived real lives, and who have real experiences. It seems that the reason we have to suffer through so many endless permutations of the Middle School fantasy, whether from Marvel, or directors like Quinten Tarantino, and Micheal Bay. Flash, blood, gore, violence, and way too much stomach churning "steady cam." This is the fantasy of 7th grade boys writ large.
First thing, go watch Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai, then Sturges's The Magnificent Seven, then Ford's The Searchers. Just avoid the modern remakes until they come to Netflix, then watch only to contrast with the superior predecessors.
