Costco just made a huge change — and furious customers are threatening to cancel memberships
Our change over was flawless. The change in cash back, however is surprising. The old card was more anemic. The new card quite good.
The new card ($55 annual fee) offers 4% back on gas, 3% back on restaurant, and "eligible" travel, 2% on costco purchases, and 1% on everything else.
In the mail I received an offer from AmEx for the BlueCashEveryDay card (no fee), which offers 3% back at US supermarkets, up to $6,000 in expenditures, 2% on gas, 2% "select US department stores, 1% everything else. It also has a one time teaser bonus $250 back after spending $1,000 during the first three months.
I have the Amazon Store Card for my Amazon purchases which give a 5% off on every purchase (I believe, there could be exceptions). Increasingly, I buy very little from Costco, and much from Amazon, the prices at Amazon are frequently as good as Costco, or better with my 5% Amazon Store Card discount, and if available on Subscribe and Save, I get another 15% off.
Is costco worth it?
The old AmEx was better than either of the two options above but nothing is as good as my Amazon Store Card.
Decisions, decisions! If I go with both, it means to maximize cash back I need to waste more brain cells on which card attaches to which purchase. Oh Bother!
Holy Mother of Pearl, they finally created . . .
I liked the Amex card pretty well . . .
