​The TELEGRAPH'S David Blaire misses the point

The crumb of comfort from the Nice attack is that even terrorists who plot alone can be stopped

This is a daft argument made by a man who misunderstands much.

"This change in tactics reflects the success of the security forces. Suicide attacks have become so difficult that the terrorists have been forced to switch tactics.

So there may be one crumb of consolation amid the bloodshed in Nice. The reason why Mohammed Lahouaiej Bouhlel chose this method of murder was probably because more sophisticated options have become too difficult."

Whut?! How long ago was it since a mass shooting happened in France, decades? Er, no, mere months. Bomb attacks? Again, mere months. Both happened back in November 2015 when a large scale mass attack occurred in Paris using both weapons, and bombs. 

Dave, baby, the mass attacks using guns, and bombs still seem to work just fine. The terrorists are simply a little more inventive than flatfoots like you. They continue to switch up, keeping you journalists, and the cops on your heals. 

Expect trains soon. You have been warned.

And liquid gasoline fill trucks, or even water trucks filled with gasoline, or diesel. The latter could quite likely take down some very significant part of a large city if combined with a large water main "failure," or pump house "failure." 

What happened in Nice is more likely the result of a individual, resentful, angry, mentally ill, facing divorce, and wishing to lash out. Perhaps ISIS or another terror group did trigger him, pay him some money, but that is the end of the process. He is a frustrated True Believer, who could be easily coopted, to do the organizations dirty work. 

And while intelligence services have been relatively good at preventing some attacks, they are clearly not enough, nor is focusing on a particular weapon or type of weapon.

China Mass Knife Killing

Guns, bombs, grenades, knives, cars, trucks, commercial airplanes all have been used to kill. So what's next, a fuel filled crop duster, dusting a stadium? A packed sea side resort? A fuel filled water spraying truck? 

Dave, boobie, the tactics change because the terrorist are not stupid. If you knew the most rudimentary elements of asymmetrical warfare, or sniping, you would understand what is going on. These changes are not because the intelligence/police services are so good, but to confuse them sufficiently to obtain the goal. 

We must be right 100% of the time, or the terrorists will snipe a few dozen, or hundred of us. When we catch them, we only catch one, or a few. This may seem like a good trade off, but is it? 

The only defense to asymmetrical warfare is asymmetrical defense, which is too expensive to maintain if the defense is professional. 

The solution where liberty remains is citizen concealed carry, and reduction of gun free zones, which should be called terror target zones. Here at the end of History we know what works. Get on with it.
