Even the highest-paid female athlete on earth feels the pay gap Banks millions, whinges about pay!? More below! "'I've been working, playing tennis, since I was three years old," she said. "And to be paid less just because of my sex - it doesn't seem fair." Will I have to explain to my daughter that her brother is gonna make more money doing the exact same job because he's a man? If they both played sports since they were three years old, they both worked just as hard, but because he's a boy, they're gonna give him more money? Like, how am I gonna explain that to her?" Huh? Lot's of people play tennis seriously from very young age, worked just has hard, but simply do not have the skills or abilities to make it to where you got, do they also deserve your salary? Or the salary of the men you are kvetching about? If you think they do, fine, you're an idiot, but not a hypocrite. Otherwise, you're both. "It's official: Serena Williams is now the world's highest-paid female athlete, surpassing previous record-holder Maria Sharapova with a total $28.9 million earned last year, Forbes announced Monday. But despite surpassing the previous record holder, there remains one important caveat: Williams is not the best-paid athlete on Earth. She's not even the best-paid athlete in tennis. That honor goes to the men." Serena, you deserve exactly the pay you receive no more, no less. "It doesn't make an ounce of sense that even Serena Williams can't pull in what her male peers do." Really? Perhaps we should let Serena compete against the men, no, let all female athletes compete against the men, it's only fair. That way if she can out perform Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal she would earn the amounts they earn, however if she turns out to be number 47 in the world I am pretty sure she won't be pulling home $28.9 million. Can she? If not, she doesn't deserve the higher pay. The reason we have a gender division in sports like tennis is to provide women with an opportunity to compete at the professional level. If tennis were one division open gender, women would mostly not be able to compete. In all honesty, she is likely dramatically overpaid when compared to men, but I might be wrong, I know little of tennis. Perhaps she is better than Federer. This isn't tricky, or sexist, it is simply that there are likely real differences between these athletes, and people are willing to pay the more skilled athlete more. I don't watch sports very often, but when I do I have specific preferences. These are valuable to me. The result is I am willing to pay more for what I want to see. Apparently, all her fans are not willing to create a market environment which allows Serena's pay to equal Federer, or Nadal. Serena your complaint is with your fans, not the men in the sport, or the people who speak truth to you. Being as privileged as you, and hiding behind the victimhood gonfalon is ugly. Now go play against the men, beat them and get paid! Or not, your choice. Until then you are a dope.
