This story is shocking. Two families devastated because this man had no self control at all, expect a very long prison sentence. 

As the self drive car comes into use, our courts will need to aggressively force emotionally compromised drivers, drink, and drug drivers, bad drivers, dangerous drivers out of personal use autos and into the self drive cars. These autos can and will change our world, and our legal system needs to see them as a valuable mechanism for doing so. One of the key ways this can be accomplished is to increase liability insurance minimums from the piddling $25,000/$50,000 which predominates today, to $1,000,000 or even more which is far more realistic. The state has every right to expect that individuals operating vehicles maintain insurance to adequately pay for damages they can cause. 

If Taylor had been riding in a self drive auto, he would never have even noticed Gray, or her minivan whether she was driving, or it was self drive. This encounter would never have happened.
