Progressives Suddenly Realize They’ve Created Frankenstein's monster. And unleashed it on themselves. This is a cautionary tale of why one should be circumspect on arming the insane. This is not a particularly difficult lesson, but one which Americans seem incapable of learning.
It is good that this time the monster has turned to attack its creator. Grab some corn, and a beer, this could get fun!
It is difficult to see a way forward with higher education in its current predicament. The costs are shockingly high, the value shockingly low, the Academe is little more than a sewer of inane toxic twaddle, and the universities have become so bloated as to be unsalvageable. "If something cannot go on forever, it will stop." Herbert Stein. And so will this, but only after great cost, and pain.
All of this boils down to great pain for taxpayers, for the battle will be The Feds and Students vs. Taxpayers. But nothing today is as it seems. Those sucking the system dry are the Boomer, for they are the ones with the six figure administrative jobs, and the tenured professorships, and the other sinecures. No, it is the Millennials, the people today who cannot afford to repay their massive college loans, which are necessary because of Boomer venality, and greed. They are the Taxpayers who will pay. The Boomers, you see, have rigged the system, so they only pay about 3/4ths of the revenue which the federal government spends. And so, when this bill comes due, as it must, the Boomers will grimace, and moan, and then put this payment on the tab of the Millennials. So, along with 25% of the federal revenue spent during the lives of most Millennials, it is they who will be paying for these deferred bills.
No wonder the Boomers are so willing to throw a party, and vote for all manner of excesses, it is not on their dime, but their children's dime. And comedically, the Millennials will snickers about how they got away with something, by pulling the wool over the Boomers eyes, or perhaps they will note there are many ways to "skin a cat." Yes, many, but it is you being skinned, not the cat, nor the Boomers. You will pay, either now, or later when the bills come due.
Fortunately, the Millennials have not been taught anything of value, including American Geography, They Don't Know the Capital of the United States!!, History, or the Holocaust, Geography, Or Anything Really! So, we don't really have to worry that they will catch on!
I had a conversation with a young college student who will be graduating this semester. She is all a twitter about going to University of Miami (Ohio) to study for a masters degree in music (singing, apparently). I like her a lot, but graduate education, at what cost? And why would one even need a masters degree in singing? This seems like getting a masters degree in sex!
She is oblivious to the great wealth theft the Boomers are perpetrating on her generation. She agreed, even if it were happing she wouldn't care. But she will, once the bill comes due, and her $60,000 in graduate loans (after assistantships, and "free" financial aid) weigh on her $35,000 per year salary. Oxford Campus Graduate Fall/Spring Semester Tuition and Fees. Talk about singing, er, whistling, past the graveyard.
