Chart of the day: US real GDP per capita vs. life expectancy
"The chart above shows the amazingly strong correlation (0.95) between US real GDP per capita and US life expectancy from 1921 to 2013. Thanks free market capitalism for giving us about 18 additional years of life expectancy over the last 92 years through 2013! What’s that worth to you? How many millions of dollars?"
And not just longer, but cleaner, healthier, safer, more enjoyable, with more free time, and less stress. The alternative is socialism, which only consumes the wealth until it erodes life expectancy, and finally triggers a revolution. In the meantime, socialism commonly kills so many people the numbers become all but uncountable.
Quotation of the day on socialism…
"…. is from Ludwig von Mises, writing in his 1922 book Socialism: An Economic and Sociological Analysis:
In fact, Socialism is not in the least what it pretends to be. It is not the pioneer of a better and finer world, but the spoiler of what thousands of years of civilization have created. It does not build, it destroys. For destruction is the essence of it. It produces nothing, it only consumes what the social order based on private ownership in the means of production has created.
MP: Just as true almost 100 years ago as it is today….. Exhibit A: Oil-rich Venezuela’s worsening economic apocalypse, thanks to socialism and its wake of destruction of the country’s resources and social order…."
