Why the Left Loathes Western Civilization
. . . which is why I am beginning to rethink my position on whether college is, or is not, too expensive.
"This month Stanford University students voted on a campus resolution that would have had their college require a course on Western civilization — as it did until the 1980s. Stanford students rejected the proposal 1,992 to 347. A columnist in the Stanford Daily explained why: Teaching Western civilization means “upholding white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism, and all other oppressive systems that flow from Western civilizations.'"
"After decades of considering this question, the answer, I have concluded, is: standards. The Left hates standards – moral standards, artistic standards, cultural standards. The West is built on all three, and has excelled in all three."
This makes some sense.
And in this time when progressivism has endured long beyond its competence, Eric Hoffer writes, "Whenever we find a dispensation enduring beyond its span of competence, there is either an entire absence of an educated class or an intimate alliance between those in power and the men of words."
Eric Hoffer, The True Believer (1951)
The progressive era has lasted long beyond its span of competence and this is because there is a clear, unequivocal alliance between the progressives politicians, journalists, academics, government bureaucrats, teachers, union bosses, among others.
The Left loathe Western Civilization because in addition to standards it so clearly establishes that the progressive era has lasted beyond its span, that it is becoming a heresy of liberalism, by falling into anti-republican fascism, into anti-free market socialism, and in all things anti-human. The Left is anti-Western Civilization for the same reason vampires are anti-sun. They cannot survive the harsh, bright light of day, or in this case reason, faith, beauty, and conservatism.
