Meaning and purpose in life are more important to the young than comfort

How Sweden became an exporter of jihad - BBC News

More below.
"Why would someone raised in Gothenburg want to leave one of the most peaceful and progressive countries in the developed world to join a violent extremist group in the Middle East?

With so many of them saying they don't feel Swedish, perhaps the bigger question is: has integration and Sweden's experiment with multiculturalism failed?"

The old Europeans have long sought leisure, and they have taught their children that this is good, and appropriate. But for most this purposeless, meaningless existence only seeking comfort, is sterile, and barren.

The question is not why would someone leave the sterile, barren, purposelessness of Gothenburg for another place, but why would anyone stay? This is as much an indictment against Europe's dying selfish secularism as it is an indictment against these young people seeking meaning, and purpose through Islamic Radicalization. Fighting this is not particularly difficult unless the culture abhors meaning, and purposefulness in existence, as Europe does.

This is but one of the reasons America has seen so much less Islamic radicalization. Here our culture allows the assimilation of the other, and then provides powerful control over the meaning, and purpose in life whether through religion, or work, or other. These opportunities are far less available in Europe even for the native born, ethnically homogenous "natives." For the young, especially the other, these opportunities are nearly nonexistent.

For many even the ethnically homogenous young people in countries like Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, France, among others have few professional opportunities.

Young and Educated in Europe, but Desperate for Jobs

These are the educated, the professionals, how can the uneducated immigrant who barely speaks the language, and who does not look like the homogenous gaggle around him fare?

Young, qualified and jobless: plight of Europe's best-educated generation

It seems even the leftists can see this issue clearly.

Another question is how long can it last that with these problems, the local native population does not become restive, and ultimately begin to foment violent action. Mass movement arise when large numbers of highly educated young people have too much time on their hands, and too little meaning, and purpose in their lives at least according to Eric Hoffer in The True Believer.

If you have not, you should pick up and read this short but extraordinary book, you can do so here.

Europe is dying demographically, spiritually, and economically. If you want to visit, I would do so soon, before the Islamic Reformation of Europe erases the great Cathedrals, art, and architecture.
