As I said earlier, Portlandia's light rail has entered the waning days before it will need a total retrofit, which will likely cost about $400 - 500 million. Rail has never made sense for low density Portlandia, and no amount of densification will get Portlandia to the place where rail would make sense. Before Portlandia embarks on a long, and expensive program of retrofitting the East Side light rail, it should seriously consider ditching rail for bus.
