Instapundit » Blog Archive » WELL, THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY, YOU KNOW: Army Abrams Tanks to Control Robotic Attack Drones. “…
. . . and so much more foolish. Tanks, especially the Abrams are so last war. They are huge, loud, obvious, and expensive beyond belief. The drones, to the extent they are controlled by local troops should be controlled by troops in fast moving light to medium armored vehicles. The drones should be whatever is necessary, heavy attack if the troops are facing heavily armored vehicles, or lighter attack/antipersonnel as needed. They should also be reconnaissance, and scouting drones. This would allow fewer troops to control larger battlespaces.
Instead of allowing tanks to operate at longer stand off distances, how about just allowing the large ground attack drones, and helicopters, and ground attack aircraft to pinpoint targets and shoot from these longer standoff distances without all of the need for the massive, costly Abrams?
I am already hearing civilian talk of small 1-4 person flying drone transport vehicles, the military seems like the perfect place for these vehicles, yet still we hear about the Abrams.
So last war.
