. . . only women read the drivel in FEMAIL. This article is incredibly shallow, and steers women in the absolute wrong direction. Misunderstanding that happiness is only a temporal distraction from the daily vicissitudes of life, and magnifying it to the status of, "extremely vital to our own goals in life" is a fundamental, and critical failure. Happiness is a dalliance, if you inflate it to more you will indeed be unhappy, if you inflate it to extremely vital to your goals in life, you will be extremely unhappy. The metric is contentment, a permanent platform upon which to build, not a temporary state upon which to fail.
Time to cry. "Tears are a way of flushing negative chemicals out of the body and doing you a world of good. We look and feel emotionally cleansed afterwards." Oh, please. Perhaps this works for some but this advice is simply shallow. Most cry's are simply a spasm of self-absorption/selfishness released. This is undoubtedly positive, but the real catharsis is to cure the cloying stench of selfishness by eliminating it, not simply giving in and having a "good cry." "You cleanse all the negative thoughts you have stuck in your mind. It helps you come to terms with your feelings when words cannot describe them. When crying, you are letting go of emotional baggage that is taking over and you feel lighter and brighter and free so, contrary to popular belief, crying is a sign that you life is complete." Oh, right, it's not a sign that you are wallowing in the self. Come on. Crying may be necessary, for example when one loses a loved on, but it remains a poignantly selfish act. We cry for us, not them, for our loss, not theirs. At best we adopt another selfishness and cry for our vicarious loss which the other faces, for example a child's loss vicariously adopted by the parent. This is like denial, it may be necessary, but it is not healthy unless short sweet and done. Magnifying denial, or crying to some cathartic, cleansing, life completing event trivializes the actual difficult road necessary to climb out of the state which got you to the crying. Women as they age are unhappy in life, mostly because they read, and accept as valid, this kind of rank piffle. The real question to ask is why am I reading FEMAIL?
