Glenn Reynolds notes that running a mendacious, felon for office might damage the politician/voter trust relationship
Glenn Reynolds: Can we ever trust the Democrats?
OK, not "might" but will totally destroy any trust relationship.
"On the trustworthiness front, Hoyer’s already lost the battle. He, like the rest of his party, will be supporting Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee, and she’s one of the least-trusted figures in politics. In the wake of her email scandals, 66% of voters say she’s not honest and trustworthy, and even a third of Democrats feel that way."
Further, how can a person like Hillary Clinton with her complete lack of any semblance of truthfulness be expected to gain the respect, and trust of the Military, especially branches like the Marine Corps who place great weight on personal integrity?
"The other way you promote trust is through transparency and accountability. Voters should be able to tell what politicians and bureaucrats are doing, and when those politicians and bureaucrats do wrong they should face real consequences. We’re not doing very well on that front either."
Anyone but Hillary would have been indicted for her handling of confidential information in contained in the email scandal.
There are reasons for the massive political backlash we are seeing today. And the backlash is not just American, it is worldwide. Here at the end of progressivism, the politicians are finding ample graft, and corruption, but no well defined socio-economic model which can address the issues to hand. Instead of engaging in the hard work of crafting the new model, they engage in graft, and corruption, featherbedding, and other unseemly activities.
Until we become serious, and take responsibility to elect serious men, and women who are willing to do the hard work, we will be saddled with ne'er do well grifters seeking to line their pockets at our expense. Hillary is the pinnacle of this, let's hope her candidacy is bridge too far.
