There is no more frivolous spending than money spent on "organic" foods. And while it is commonly just a lark, it can be deadly as well, especially when this wackadoo secular religion drives the believer to adopt unhealthy belief like the raw milk nostrums.

Organic foods are little more than the wealthy signaling their virtuousness. It is the "Prius Handshake" for food. Buying organic signals that the buyer is one of the "good guys." It doesn't matter if the food is actually better, the value is in belonging to the church of the environment, and organics are the secret handshake.
