Reading this article it would be forgivable if one were to believe that in 2014 every NY Taxi driver was a millionaire but that Uber had destroyed their net worth. This is not accurate, however. The Taxi Medallion owner has lost this value not the taxi driver. The driver is in approximately the same position he was before, although there is more competition now.
Plus, dear Elena, it is not Uber doing this, it is the customers doing this. Customers are commonly want to vote with their feet when they find a better "mouse trap." And there is no doubt that Uber is a better "mouse trap." This does not slow the politicians desire to retain the old, the antiquated, the outdated, but politically willing to drop huge money bombs on politicians taxi system.
