Europe made a deal with Erdogan which includes $6 billion in aid, and allows all 80 million Turks visa free access to Europe. Turkey gets to keep its illegal possession of Cyprus, continue to treat Kurds like rifle targets, and will continue to hold 2.7 million Syrians hostage, seeking to extract even more money from feckless Europe.
I no longer care what Europe does, for whatever it does, it will be the wrong thing every time. The US needs to immediately recognize what was Kurdish Iraq, and Syria as a new Kurdistan, and then send troops to protect these regions, up to and including shooting down Russian aircraft if necessary. Iraq needs to be told to lump it. The US also needs to ensure that the Kurds in Turkey are protected from Turkish violence. Our leaders need to go back and read the Declaration of Independence, and if they do not understand it they need to step down. Then they need to allow people round the world implement their own Declarations of Independence when faced with illegal, immoral, and unjust governments. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." Apparently, our politicians are incapable of understand these simple straightforward words. Sack them all! Turkey must be brought up, and soon, it, and Erdogan must understand that if the Turkish Kurds are suffering under despotism, we will support them in their demands for independence. We should be willing to sacrifice our military bases in Turkey for this, after all these bases are protecting the world from the Soviet Union, a nation which has not existed since 1991. It is time for America to return to its roots, as the rebellious, disruptive republican of the world, to seek nothing more than a world here at the End of History following what we know works, republican governance, free markets, strictly limited constitutional government, and reformed religions. We spent most of the 20th century seeking to maintain established authoritarian/dictatorial/despotic governments, all in the name of fighting the Cold War, a war now long over. It is time we return to our roots. We as Americans need to let the lovers, and adherents of despotism, tyranny, dictatorship, and authoritarianism know that we will neither expect nor offer quarter in this war.
