Why Are We Making It So Hard For the Chinese to Provide Us With Lower-Cost Aluminum? | Coyote Blog
I agree wholeheartedly, why would we act to injure the individual consumers, while supporting, and economically benefitting a few businesses? Oh, right graft, and corruption. This is the only reason to act this way.
There might be a very minor allowance for National Security concerns, but this is a de minimus concern. The aluminum sitting in Mexico does not come under this heading, nor would steel. Instead these are simply ways of sticking consumers, so politicians can sluice money to businesses who will then sluice some of that money back to the politicians, perhaps through campaign financing, or hiring the politicians child, or wife, or other relative. Or, perhaps, by later hiring the politician, once retired, as a consultant, or highly paid employee, or lobbyist.
Tariffs, are a way to quietly force consumers to pay for the politicians graft, and corruption. Supporting them is tantamount to supporting corruption.
