Boat flips over twice, killing three people northeast of Pittsburgh
I have thousands of hours of boating experience, I have encountered and seen some horrific boating accidents.
The entire Maddog family traditionally spend more than 100 days each summer on the water, mostly the Willamette River. More than a decade ago, we left for an early morning waterski and came upon a horrific boat crash. The boat had crashed into a low bank rock ledge during the middle of the night sometime. The boat was destroyed, and it was obvious that someone had ripped through the windscreen/con area. The Police had just arrived, and were preparing the investigation scene. We asked if we could help, and were told no. We made sure the officer understood that even 100 miles from the ocean, the Willamette has tidal action, and could see tides of a couple of feet. He was appreciative, and told us that the sole occupant, a male had been recovered, deceased.
We left, to spend the day on the water.
The next morning we found the police again back out at the site, and discovered that they had missed a second passenger, a woman who had been seriously injured in the accident with injuries to her legs, pelvis, thoracic area, and at least one arm. She was found by a Sea Plane instructor when he went down to his dock, to prepare the plane for a training flight, and found she had crawled into his equipment shed. She was there, unconscious for more than a day.
Alcohol was a factor. I never drink, and boat, it is not worth the consequences.
