Stanford pushes separate physics course for minority students
Separate but equal, dumbed-down but "equal." My take is progressives believe minorities are too stupid, too low in intelligence to understand "real" physics, but their weak self-esteem needs to be stroked by allowing them to pretend to go to college taking sub-college level courses, and still "graduate." This is the white progressive conceit. It is similar to the conceit we see from Elon Musk, and others who believe those beneath them in the economic rankings need a $1,000 per month government subsidy to survive in the new high intelligence economy. In essence, the hoi polloi are too stupid to survive so the progressives must stoop to throw them crumbs, so they don't starve in the streets. This is the fabric of the new plantation, the new serfdom created by our progressive betters where they will allow us to live in working poverty so they can live like kings. This mindset comes from the dull-witted failure to understand that the economic pie is not fixed but can be expanded.

Professor says her left-wing students agree with Betsy DeVos policies when DeVos isn’t mentioned | The College Fix "If you’re suspicious of an evidence standard analogous to a coin flip, the ability of college administrators to competently investigate alleged sex crimes, and the farcically broad definition of “sexual misconduct” on any given campus, you’re in league with President Trump’s education secretary. “Stunned”? So were Shira Tarrant’s students when the gender studies professor at California State University-Long Beach told them that their views on campus sexual misconduct investigations weren’t that far off from Betsy DeVos*. Tarrant gives a series of lectures on Title IX in her Gender, Sex and the Law class, and she switched things up in a recent lecture, as she writes in Playboy: “I decided to avoid mentioning [DeVos] by name in an effort to separate political assumptions from policy debate.” The resulting in-class discussion was unexpectedly intelligent, with students unwittingly validating some of the elements of the Department of Education’s proposed revision of Title IX regulations on campus sexual misconduct: My students saw compelling reasons for revising current Title IX procedures. They agreed that changing the burden of proof from what has been dubbed the “50 percent plus a feather” standard to a “clear and convincing” one would better serve justice … They questioned the validity of the term sexual misconduct, noting that it collapses harassment and rape into one bucket of behavior. They worried about the consequences of ill-equipped employees implementing policies; training tools such as Title IX instructional videos and multiple-choice quizzes, for example, reek of school administrators doing the bare minimum, my students said." In truth, these young people are little more than Sheeple who have been indoctrinated into the environmental, recycling, global warming, liberty haters they are. When they first hear the positions of "Emmanuel Goldstein" without attribution, they accept and embrace those positions as correct. These young people are intelligent, inexperienced, and indoctrinated to believe the utterly false progressive leftist cult. We are witnessing the end of the progressive cult. Social Security, welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Global Warming, Environmentalism, recycling, alternative energy, electric cars, and all of the cult's shibboleths are failing, at the same time. We know how this ends. When Prophecy Fails This book costs less than a dollar, buy it, read it. It will help you understand how mass movements fail. The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements (Perennial Classics) This book costs about $3, and it will help you understand all aspects of mass movements. The progressive movement (and its Democrat and Republican adherents) and the Democratic Party are mass movements. Understanding what that means is critical to understand what will happen in the immediate future. The young people will not remain mind dead zombies just as the Russian/Soviet peoples did not. When they awaken, when the mass movement ends, it takes everyone by surprise. But it will end, and all signs indicate it will end quite soon. My take is the end will be caused by great existential conflict, either an American civil war the best example of which was our Civil War of the early 1860s (the lesser example is the British civil war in the American colonies we call the American Revolutionary War), or it will end like German National Socialism or Japanese Authoritarian Militarism ended during the 1940s. In either event, the young people no matter how naive at the beginning of these conflicts came out cynics and hard-nosed pragmatists who knew what needed to be done and simply did it. The cathartic crisis of these wars ended in a vast rebuilding of the entire world infrastructurally, physically, theoretically, politically, socially, and culturally. After the Millennials go through this wringer, they will not be the same indoctrinated, starry-eyed, dreamers. The harsh reality of existential conflict will change them as anodizing changes aluminum into a much stronger and corrosion-resistant material. The Social Security Ponzi Scheme Is Crumbling: Massive Cuts Or Tax Hikes Coming "With only 15 years until social security runs out of money, the solution to this failure is being ignored. When the benefits do get cut, they will drop by 25% around 2034 when there are too many people using the government Ponzi scheme and not enough paying into it, or taxes will be increased." Or the government will borrow more, placing an even bigger burden on our children and grandchildren. The Boomers created this problem and have every intention of dying before it comes home to roost. Our students are adrift; we need to turn, address this situation, then punish those responsible, harshly! "I now regularly meet students who have never heard the names of most English authors who lived before 1900. That includes Milton, Chaucer, Pope, Wordsworth, Byron, Keats, Tennyson, and Yeats. Poetry has been largely abandoned. Their knowledge of English grammar is spotty at best and often nonexistent. That is because grammar, as its own subject worthy of systematic study, has been abandoned. Those of my students who know some grammar took Latin in high school or were taught at home. The writing of most students is irreparable in the way that aphasia is. You cannot point to a sentence and say, simply, “Your verb here does not agree with your subject.” That is not only because they do not understand the terms of the comment. It is also because many of their sentences will have no clear subject or verb to begin with. The students make grammatical errors for which there are no names. Their experience of the written language has been formed by junk fiction in school, text messages, blog posts, blather on the airwaves, and the bureaucratic sludge that they are taught for “formal” writing, and that George Orwell identified and skewered seventy years ago. The best of them are bad writers of English; the others write no language known to man." More on the phenomenal, ‘eye-popping’ success of Success Academy Charter Schools in NYC We should give the parents and children real choices. We should not limit or tie them to public education, which is quickly becoming little more than lunacy and indoctrination. Which would you rather your child attend, the schools below or the now utterly dismal California public school system, or the Washington DC public school system, or the New York City public school system? From the article:
"If you haven’t yet heard about the amazing, appropriately-named Success Academy Charter Schools in New York City, here’s some background: Founded in 2006, Success Academy Charter Schools is the largest and highest-performing free, public charter school network in New York City. Admission is open to all New York State children, including those with special needs and English language learners. Students are admitted by a random lottery held each April. Success Academy operates 45 schools serving 17,000 students in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Across the network, 76% of students are from low-income households; 8.5% are current and former English Language Learners, and 15% are current and former special needs students. About 93% of students are children of color. In the state of New York, there are 2,413 elementary schools and the table above (click to enlarge) shows the top 30 highest performing elementary schools in the state based on New York Elementary School Rankings just released for the 2018-2019 school year and compiled by School Digger. The rankings are based on the Average Standard Score (2019) for each elementary school, and that score is explained here. What is truly amazing is that of the 30 elementary schools in the entire state of New York (the top 1.24% of schools) with the highest Average Standard Score for the 2018-2019 school year, two-thirds of those top schools (20) are Success Academy Charter Schools. There were four other Success Academy elementary charters that didn’t rank in the top 30, but they weren’t far behind at No. 32 (Success Academy Charter School-Harlem 1) , No. 37 (Success Academy Charter School-Harlem 2), No. 40 (Success Academy Charter School – Springfield Gardens) and No. 45 (Success Academy Charter School-Bronx 3). In other words, 100% of the elementary Success Academy Charter Schools (24 out of 24) ranked in the top 2% of all of the 2,413 elementary schools in New York State (actually the top 1.865%). And when you compare the demographics of the Success Academy Charters Schools above to the other 10 top-ranking schools in the table above, you’ll see that the students attending Success charters: a) are more than two times as likely to qualify for free or discounted lunch, b) nearly four times as likely to be black, and c) 1.4 times as likely to be Hispanic. Questions: Wouldn’t you think that these Success Academy charter schools would be recognized as academic models for the rest of the city, the state and the entire nation? After all, the students at Success Academy charter schools are performing at the same or even higher level as students in tony, upscale, mostly white and Asian Scarsdale, New York (America’s richest town) whose top-ranked elementary schools is K-5 Edgewood School (ranked No. 31 behind 20 Success Academy charters) and where more than 87% of the students are white or Asian, there are no black students, 0% of the students qualify for free/reduced lunch, the median income is $242,782, and the median home value is $1.34 million! What makes the academic excellence of Success Academy charters even more impressive, especially when compared to schools like Edgewood, is that students at Success Academies are selected at random by lottery in some of the poorest neighborhoods in New York City like in the Bronx where 87% of the students qualify for free or discounted lunches! With those kinds of impressive, eye-popping academic results for some of the city’s most at-risk student populations in Harlem, Queens and the Bronx, shouldn’t that proven record of academic success be replicated in all New York City and New York state public schools? A: Yes, except for a few major obstacles. The Success Academy charter schools are run by Eva Moskowitz, and her network of charter schools hire only non-union teachers, who are paid well but can be fired for non-performance. So the New York City teacher unions hate Eva Moskowitz despite her jaw-dropping “off-the-charts success” at educating black and Hispanic kids in some of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. Likewise, instead of being thrilled that so many of the city’s low-income, minority students are being educated so successfully, the new New York mayor Bill de Blasio hates charter schools just as much as the entrenched teacher unions (who are a main part of his political base of support) and he has been in a ferocious battle to stop Eva Moskowitz and the spread of charter schools. As Jason Riley writes in today’s Wall Street Journal: “De Blasio Gives Up on Educating Poor Kids: Rather than expanding schools that help minority students, the mayor wants to shut them down“: The majority of [public school students in New York] can’t do basic reading or math, according to state standardized test results released last week. And the numbers get even more depressing when broken down by race and ethnicity. Black and Hispanic students make up 67% of the system, while whites and Asians are about 15% and 16%, respectively. Only 28% of black students passed the math exam, versus 33% of Hispanics, 67% of whites and 74% of Asians. On the English exam, the passage rates were 68% for Asians, 67% for whites, 37% for Hispanics and 35% for blacks. The irony is that the same social-justice advocates who obsess over [racial] inequality also spurn reforms, such as public charter schools, that help close black-white differences in learning (see Venn diagram above). “City charter schools, now teaching roughly 10% of the city’s student population, markedly outperformed traditional public schools again” on the state tests, reported the New York Post. Fifty-seven percent of charter-school test takers passed the state English exam, and 63% passed the math portion. Moreover, the highest scores in the state, for the third year in a row, came from Success Academy, a New York City-based charter-school network, where the passage rates for math and English were an astounding 99% and 90% (out of 7,405 students), respectively. Even more impressive is that these charter students are mostly low-income blacks and Hispanics, not middle-class Asians and whites. If the primary goal were student achievement, Democratic politicians like New York Mayor Bill de Blasio would allow these successful school models to proliferate. But the mayor is far more interested in placating his political benefactors, the powerful teachers unions, which oppose charter schools because they don’t control them. To the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers and their thousands of state and local affiliates, public education is more about jobs than about kids. Reforms that marginalize or circumvent union members are rejected, regardless of whether they benefit students. Mr. de Blasio may identify as a progressive champion of the underprivileged, but that’s lip service. The reality is that he’s blocking the surest path to the middle class for the city’s poor by relegating them to inferior schools. Bottom Line: In a saner and more sensible world where students and learning are really the No. 1 priority, the educational establishment (including members of the teacher unions and the NYC mayor) would be “falling all over themselves” to study and replicate the proven educational success of Success Academy charter schools like the ones in Harlem, the Bronx, and Queens profiled above. But in the insane world of New York City where unionized teachers have a stranglehold on public schools, the liberal mayor and liberal teacher unions are waging a war on the city’s successful charter schools like the ones operated by Success Academy Charter Schools. Preservation of the status quo and a continuation of the current failed public school model, and preserving its power, are the primary concerns of the teachers unions and their administrative enablers, which includes Enabler-in-Chief Bill de Blasio. It’s a perfect opportunity to invoke Perry’s Principle which says that progressives (including teachers unions) really don’t care about or value people (students, parents) as much as they care about and value power over people or just plain straight-up political power. And a slightly modified Perry’s Law also applies here: Competition (and school choice) breeds competence and academic success, while being insulated from competition breeds incompetence and academic failure. Related: Here’s what the wise Thomas Sowell had to say in 2016 about the Success Academy charters in one of his columns (and featured on CD here), bold added: We keep hearing that “black lives matter,” but they seem to matter only when that helps politicians to get votes, or when that slogan helps demagogues demonize the police. The other 99% of black lives destroyed by people who are not police do not seem to attract nearly as much attention in the media. What about black success? Does that matter? Apparently not so much. We have heard a lot about black students failing to meet academic standards. So you might think that it would be front-page news when some whole ghetto schools not only meet, but exceed, the academic standards of schools in more upscale communities. There are in fact whole chains of charter schools where black and Hispanic youngsters score well above the national average on tests. There are the KIPP (Knowledge IS Power Program) schools and the Success Academy schools, for example. What makes this all the more amazing is that these charter schools are typically located in the same ghettos or barrios where other blacks or Hispanics are failing miserably on the same tests. More than that, successful charter schools are often physically housed in the very same buildings as the unsuccessful public schools. In other words, minority kids from the same neighborhood, going to school in classes across the hall from each other, or on different floors, are scoring far above average and far below average on the same tests. If black success was considered half as newsworthy as black failures, such facts would be headline news — and people who have the real interests of black and other minority students at heart would be asking, “Wow! How can we get more kids into these charter schools?” But the teachers’ unions are opposed to charter schools — and they give big bucks to politicians, who in turn put obstacles and restrictions on the expansion of charter schools. These include politicians like New York’s “progressive” mayor Bill de Blasio, who poses as a friend of blacks by denigrating the police, standing alongside Al Sharpton." Unalloyed evil happens, just as it did in Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and communist China. Progressives are totalitarians; they want total control of society from the levers of power to the children in school. Sadly, we know how this turns out, it is always the same, millions murdered, a nation destitute, and a people impoverished. All to stoke the vanity of the progressives. "The scariest thing about the ethnic studies curriculum may not be its ultimate content but how it reflects an ideology that advocates indoctrination of youngsters who often don’t even have the most basic understanding of sociology or history. Often incapable of meeting basic grade-level English language and mathematics standards, these students would be forced to learn academic jargon like misogynoir, cisheteropatriarchy and hxrstory. Indoctrinating the young has long been a favored priority for activists, including on the religious right. After a decade or two of concern with actual performance, ideological information and indoctrination has been increasingly de rigueur in schools through the West. Educators have been moving toward scrapping such things as exit exams and clearly comparable measures of achievement. Yes, these young people may be getting diplomas, but do they have the skills, academic as well as social, to compete in the real world? So far, the answer is largely no. California’s 8th graders, on average, have fallen well behind the rest of the country in science, mathematics and reading scores — including even demographically similar states such as Texas and New York. Almost three of five California high schoolers are not prepared for either college or a career; the percentages are far higher for Latinos, African American and the economically disadvantaged. It’s hard to see how they will benefit by being schooled in an anti-capitalist ideology while countries like China and India focus on preparing students for the challenges of the global economy." Totalitarian idiocy, compounded by absurd, useless indoctrination will do nothing to benefit our children, it will destroy them, and the nation. We are in a cold civil war; we need to win this war or lose the nation. It is time to get off the fence and get cracking! Opinion | The California War Is About EVs
"A rational person’s reaction might be, so what? The auto industry claims that, unless California and the Trump administration resolve their differences on fuel-economy standards, car makers will be forced to build two sets of cars for the U.S. market. Don’t believe it. Car makers would mostly just raise the price of their pickups to make sure they sold fewer in California and covered their fuel-economy fines. They would also cut the price of their electric and other low-emission cars to make sure they sold more of them. And on the upside, voters in California and 13 other states that have adopted California’s rules would have to confront the cost of political decisions made in their name." What are those political decisions? "The real fight here is about something else. For California, it’s about holding onto a 50-year-old federal waiver to set its own clean-air standards. No political bureaucracy willingly surrenders such a power once it has it. For the car industry, the fight is for financial survival amid a global regulatory push for electric vehicles, which the Trump administration obstreperously has declined to play along with. For starters, you would be misled by focusing on conflicting fuel-mileage targets. The Obama administration originally touted a goal of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. The Trump administration revised this to 37 mpg. A California compromise announced last month sets a target of 50 mpg by 2026. More relevant are the buried details that disguise the real business here: how the cost of subsidizing electric cars will be shifted onto buyers of gasoline-powered vehicles. By a widely accepted estimate, the Obama rules would have come closer to a real-world 40 mpg rather than the touted 54.5 mpg—the difference being a variety of credits (spelled out in 600 pages of dense Federal Register prose) devised to encourage auto makers to design and build electric cars and dump them on consumers at a loss." The real issue is whether California will be able to keep forcing the poor and middle classes to subsidize the EV toys bought by the rich. So, what is the actual outcome of these rules? "And the climate? It says, so what? None of this is going to matter significantly because neither improving fuel mileage of cars nor switching them to electric power would make more than a trivial dent in global CO2 output." These rules are a joke at best and a fraud at worst. "Here’s how we got here: Auto makers strongly supported the incoming Trump team’s plan to revisit what all understood were deliberately unrealistic Obama targets. The industry, however, wanted the out-year targets lowered in backdoor fashion by doling out more credits for electric cars. Why? Faced with large EV mandates in China and Europe and knowing they will face them again in the U.S. when Democrats are back in charge, they seek consistent regulatory incentives around the world in hopes of achieving economies of scale to keep their EV losses manageable." Again back to the baseline truth, the poor and the middle class are being forced to subsidize these EV toys for the wealthy, California is all in, so are the Democrats, Trump is not. The auto manufacturers don't much care provided they get the necessary subsidies from the poor and middle classes to help make the EV toys attractive to the wealthy. "A saner target for emissions cutting would be those giant sources that run 100% of the time, such as base-load electricity generation and industrial heat production. Even more so because whatever fuels our power plants also fuels our electric cars. The obvious solution here is nuclear, assuming a solution is needed, but only if and when the green movement can get over its own internal schisms on this subject. Of course, I’m vaporing. There is no chance of reason entering this unfriendly arena. To an obstinate part of the electorate, the car remains a sinful object. The great chemistry experiment in the atmosphere will go on very little affected by government policies to reward this or that technology. In the meantime, lots of taxpayer and consumer money can and will be squandered on special interests while having no effect on climate." The progressive cult will have none of this. Cars are sin, and you must repent your sins. It's a cult. A deadly secular cult. Time to shut it down and move on. Man wearing MAGA hat on date night gets ‘sucker punched’
