Public should 'get stuck in' when they see violent crime, says Met police chief Right, because hands against armed criminals is sane? More beyond the fold. Rearm the right people you silly sod. America has proven that it can be done. Concealed carry licensees are the most law abiding people in America, more law abiding than the police by a good measure. It does not take many of these to alter the way criminals view perpetration of violent crime. That is a crime suppressant. But no, bloomers in a knot, this "chief" of police actually suggest that bystanders should engage with violent criminals!?
"He said people should “think twice” if there is a risk they may get hurt but added: “my encouragement would always be for people, first of all, to try and get help on the phone, secondly, if they can get some help, somebody to go and get involved with them, thirdly, if you can make some noise, you know, put that person on the back foot." Or, you could just ARM them, that creates something of a better deterrent, than "ringing" the police, or making some noise. "Sir Bernard also criticised plans by Westminster City Council to switch off dozens of CCTV cameras and warned it could be dangerous given the heightened terror threat. The council plans to cut around 75 cameras later this year but Sir Bernard said it was “ironic” given that authorities in Paris are now installing more in the wake of the recent terror attacks." Is this a joke? The cameras are of little use in crime solving, if they worked, the Met would solve more of its murder cases, but, no. The nice thing about the cameras, however, is it allows the police to wait and show up long after the threat has disbursed. They have the perp on video dontchaknow. The thing which would most help resolve Britain's high crime problem is killing the Town and Country Planning Act of 1954, and all other land use planning laws. These laws have densified the cities, and left too much available land undeveloped. The result is always crime, and lots of it. The solution is to allow people to move out of the cities and build homes that they want to build on land where they want to live. Perhaps Sir Bernie should faff around back in New Scotland Yard, where he might be more successful in ordering up a spot of tea, and crumpets, oh, what, they're out, biscuits then.
