Young people are shunning construction jobs—and it’s hurting the housing market
They have a degree! Sure it's in Ball Bearing Stacking and BS Studies, but it's a degree. They should not have to do hard work, or labor, or work in the out of doors. So, they don't. Then they bitch and carp that the work is too hard, and they only get two weeks of vacation, and the healthcare benefit is too expensive, and ... Oh, brother! Too many of their parents have taught them to be slackers. These kids will be hard hit when the new economy comes and demands productivity for pay. We already see this with Uber. Two thirds of the Uber drivers love the work and work hard at it. The rest, often former cabbies hate the job because it requires they be personable, helpful, and polite, in other words, productive. I think the Millennials will, in the end, do very well, but there will be a serious learning curve with the change from the old employment model to the new. Many would do well to have not incurred $45,000 in debt but instead learned a construction trade or skill. They would be happy, skilled, earning a living wage, debt free, and in most nonprogressive communities, homeowners. Instead, they are unhappy, deep in debt, living in a small apartment, working at a low or unskilled job like Starbucks barista.

Wait, not that Steve Austin! This Steve Austin! "The city of Austin, Texas has suggested in a preliminary report, that highlighted historical connections to a former Confederate leader, Stephen F. Austin, otherwise known as the "Father of Texas", that it might consider changing its name. In addition to identifying several neighborhoods and towns linked to the Confederacy, the report, released by Texas’ Equity Office also suggested name changes for city streets honoring the Confederacy or Confederate leaders, including slave owner William Barton, The Austin American Statesman reported Friday. Austin, who founded the city in 1839, was notable for his staunch disapproval of an effort to ban slavery in the Tejas province following the Texas Revolution." So, Steve, who died in 1836, was a Confederate leader when the Civil War did not start until 1861? Time Traveler!!! Steve, who died in 1836, also founded the city of Austin in 1839? Time Traveler!!! Billy Barton, who died in 1840, was a Confederate leader? Time Traveler!!! No, not Billy Barty, Billy Barton, who was a bit taller, and nowhere near as good an actor. We need far fewer leftists in academia. This is a small but good start. Iran On the Ropes?
"I confess that even after I boarded the Trump train–basically, when no alternative was left–I didn’t imagine that Trump would prove to be a foreign policy genius. But isn’t that what we are seeing? Improving our trade deals, finally doing something about North Korea, standing up to Putin’s Russia, pushing back against Chinese theft of intellectual property, exposing anti-Semitism and fecklessness in the U.N., getting more contributions from NATO allies–it’s been a heck of a year and a half! Then there is Iran. Barack Obama pursued a bizarre Iran policy, from the first days of his administration, when he went on Iranian television. His view, apparently, was that strained relations between the U.S. and Iran were mostly our fault–never mind that incident at the embassy that stretched on for more than a year–and really, the U.S. and the mullahs’ “Death to America” Iran are natural allies. So he tried to build Iran up as a regional power, supplying pallets of cash and ultimately something like $100 billion in exchange for promises that can be revoked at will. Donald Trump’s policy is, thankfully, entirely different. He has withdrawn the U.S. from Obama’s foolish agreement, and is imposing new sanctions on Iran’s radical regime. Most important, probably, he is rallying a natural coalition of Sunni Gulf states plus Israel to check Iran’s (and Russia’s) ambitions in the region." Trump is different only because he skillfully uses Big Stick Diplomacy by showing the big stick, then making a threat he is willing to execute on, before finally meeting in person where he offers the other party a face-saving negotiated outcome. He does one other thing. Trump knows his opponents what they want, what they need, and then he finds a way to get to a solution in which both the US and the opponent can achieve goals they need to complete. Plus, people trust him because he is a man of his word. Obama, on the other hand, would make promises but every single one came with an expiration date. It did not take long before no one trusted Obama because his word was worthless. Trump looks like a genius only because the past four Presidents were of amazingly low quality particularly in the area of negotiation. Trump is using a pretty straightforward negotiation tactic which works well for the hegemon, but it must be skillfully implemented. Fortunately, Trump is a skillful negotiator. What was so frustrating to me was how Obama made the simple, complicated resulting in simple international problems which grew and metastasized into huge worldwide concerns. Trump is quickly and logically addressing the most significant and most concerning issues one at a time. Because he is highly competent at negotiating this is comfortable work, and he achieves quick results. Yes, there will be testing by the various players, but this is nothing Trump has not experienced in the past. Relax and let him work. The part which few (except the Chinese) understand is Trump is not only fixing problems, but he is addressing the worldwide remodel of the international world order, including the international organizations like the UN, NATO, etc. and he will soon turn his attention to reforming and modernizing the international financial organizations which were created in the 1944 Bretton-Woods Agreement. While these agreements have been modified over time, they need a full contact to remodel. We live in the 21st century, not the 20th, yet we are operating with financial models first created during the first half of the 20th century. I am no genius, but I can track what is going on. Trump does not need to be a genius, although he is undoubtedly more intelligent than I. Trump understands that nothing lasts, everything has a season, and everything of value needs to be remodeled eventually. He is right the Bretton Woods agreements, the UN and other international organizations, and the way the nations relate, trade, and operate all needs to be revised and soon. The new world order will not wait. Trump is not a patient man, he can chew gum, sanction Russia, tariff China, sanction the NorKs, and the Iranian while walking, and reforming the world order. Get used to the action; Trump is a man of action. Sidebar: one reason I understand this is my wife is very similar. She is top of her game in her industry, and she is incredibly high energy. So, our lives were always hectic and chaotic. Fine by me, I thrive in chaos where others are confused and out of sorts. As a child, I either moved my home or school every year except for third grade and ninth grade. I did stay at the same high school for 11 and 12 after changing schools in 10th. I then changed colleges like most people change socks and even went to two law schools. As a result, I became very good at the chaos which comes from change. That doesn't mean I like it only that I am good at dealing with it. I also have extensive experience as a negotiator and as a mediator. For me observing what Trump is doing makes sense. What did not make sense was how Obama, Bush or Clinton handled foreign relations. They all seemed naifs in a dangerous, chaotic world. They took action expecting linear results when there are no linear results in the chaotic maelstrom. Obama, however, took the cake. He was cocksure and profoundly incompetent perhaps the most dangerous combination. Just ask Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg plans for five more years on Supreme Court

The difference between Sweden and the European nations with extensive welfare safety nets and America is that the average American earner lives like the Swede in the 90+% income range while the average Swede lives like a low-income American who earns below the 25% income level.
