A message from Abdi Nur
"Abdi Nur was the first Somali source to speak with me after I wrote about Ilhan Omar in my “Her back pages” post of August 2016. I have met with him frequently over the past three and a half years and confirmed everything he has told me with other sources (including law enforcement) and other researchers (including, preeminently, Preya Samsundar and David Steinberg). Abdi is a widely followed reporter for the Somali community on Facebook. After telling the Omar saga to the Daily Mail’s Martin Gould for the story published last week, Abdi has gone to ground. Today he has posted the following message on Facebook and asked me to share it with Power Line readers. Abdi writes: My name is Abdihakin Osman Nur and I live in Minneapolis Minnesota. I am an American citizen. I am the person who spoke to the media and said that Ilhan Omar married her brother and made legal papers for him to stay in America. I confirmed that the marriage was fraudulent and that I was personally aware since I was a close friend and neighbor to both Ahmed Hirsi and Ilhan Omar. It is also an open secret in the Minnesota Somali community but everyone is afraid of problems from supporters of Ilhan Omar, at least one of whom has a felony criminal record. This issue started in August of 2016 and the first media person whom I spoke to was Scott Johnson, who writes for Power Line. I shared his posts on my Facebook [page] and I was met with vicious online harassment and threats including insulting me for being in a wheelchair and insults to my person as a disabled man. They [i.e., Abdi’s Somali harassers] caricatured me as wearing diapers. I finally decided to put them on all the things that they were doing in suppressing the information through intimidation and threats and so I told the writer of Daily Mail to put it on the record. Since that day I have received veiled threats about my safety, insults online and threats of a set-up in which to have me locked up. I have had fake complaints to try and shut my Facebook [page] down. They have also told a media personality on YouTube to threaten me and she did so live on a YouTube video. I would like to inform the public and the government of the USA. If anything were to happen to me and my safety that Ilhan Omar and her team will be responsible. I also ask for the support of the American people in case I’m set up or something happens to me because I have talked. Thanks for your help and understanding. Abdihakin Osman Nur"

Across the country, rural communities want to secede from their states. Here's why.
In areas like gun and ammo laws, the federal law should be the ceiling, states should not be able to further regulate them. Trump should combine this with a nationwide right to carry concealed law with shall issue language. The Second Amendment either means something or it does not. "What’s Really Driving the Homelessness Crisis" "Contrary to the conventional wisdom, homelessness is not a national crisis. In fact, homelessness has declined 14.6% nationwide over the past decade, while at the same time increasing dramatically in major West Coast cities, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle." Progressivism is the cause. Especially where the policies allow: "permissive policies on public camping, drug consumption, and property crime, which has created an attractive environment for the homeless." Whatever you incentivize you will get more of, whatever you penalize you will get less of, why is this so difficult for the progressive to understand? "If political leaders in West Coast cities truly want to reduce street homelessness, they must first break through their denial about its causes. Although reducing housing costs is a critical public policy goal, it will not significantly reduce the number of people on the streets. The compassionate response is not to maintain the fiction that homelessness can be solved with new housing developments, but to grapple with the complex human challenges of addiction and mental illness." The video below offers some hope. Mayor Pete Platitude Generator
When you read these you realize the vacuity of the man. Thanks: "Mayor Pete Platitude Generator" The problem using Sweden as an example of a socialist model that works? Sweden ain't socialist | American Enterprise Institute - AEI "Democratic socialists like Bolshevik Bernie Sanders and Karla Marx (AOC) can no longer point to Venezuela as a socialist model that works because it failed so miserably, so they now hold up Sweden, Denmark, and Norway as their preferred examples of democratic socialism that supposedly works. But there’s a big problem with using those Nordic countries as examples of the socialist utopias that America should emulate. Especially for Sweden as Johan Norberg points out in a Cato Institute Policy Report “Sweden’s Lessons for America“: Sweden is NOT socialist: If Sanders and Ocasio‐ Cortez really want to turn America into Sweden, what would that look like? For the United States, it would mean, for example: 1. More free trade 2. A more deregulated product market 3. No Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac 4. The abolition of occupational licensing and minimum wage laws 5. The abolition of taxes on property, gifts, and inheritance 6. Even after the recent tax cut, America would still have to slightly reduce its corporate tax 7. America would need to reform Social Security from defined benefits to defined contributions and introduce private accounts 8. The US would also need to adopt a comprehensive school voucher system where private schools get the same per‐ pupil funding as public ones. If this is socialism, call me comrade." Me too! If Trump were to embrace these as basic policy positions, he would do well, and he could steal the thunder from The Bern, who doesn't want any of this but wants outright Soviet Socialism. Our progressive cities are embarrassments, our progressive states are tragedies. We need to understand that it is progressivism and its malign policies which cause these destructive outcomes. The West Turns Red? | Newgeography.com After repeated election cycles with shockingly innacurate polling, we still get people who cite to poll data as if it is accurate. It is not. Stop citing poll data as if it has any value. "Adam Smith, the philosophical father of modern capitalism, may have been Scottish, but his ideas have long found their muse in America. Smith’s “voice has been ringing in the world’s ears for sixty years”, wrote one observer in 1838, “but it is only in the United States that he is listened to, reverenced, and followed.” Yet today the US is shifting, perhaps inexorably, in the precise opposite direction towards an embrace of socialism. In the current race for the Democratic presidential nomination Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, a self described “democratic socialist”, has, according to CNN, taken the national lead – though billionaire Mike Bloomberg has managed to buy his way into second place, perhaps through sheer weight of money and name recognition. Paired with fellow progressive, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, the party’s “red” bloc represents upward to 50 per cent of the party’s electorate, according to an average of polls by Real Clear Politics. To put this in perspective, these numbers are far higher than those enjoyed by President Donald Trump on his romp to the Republican nomination in 2016." What this misses is that Trump is a return to the older style of Republicanism with its emphasis on personal responsibility, individual liberty, small government with strict constitutional limitations on power, and an executive focused on managing these tightly limited powers. Trump is the modern American heir to Adam Smith. At the same time, the progressive Democrats are the modern heir to the various fascist and socialist factions which so roiled Europe during the 20th Century. It is not that the electorate is moving left towards fascism and socialism; it is that about one-third of the electorate has moved into the fascist/socialist left. In contrast, the vast majority of the middle has moved toward the Trump/Adam Smith position. The NeverTrumpers are an odd blend Republicans who like the fascist model since it keeps the trains running on time, and the hoi polloi under control but also like the idea of endless war. Of all the American political factions, they are the least tied to American tradition. They are progressive Republicans who love war for its ability to bring the hoi polloi together under the control of a powerful central government. "The new socialism represents, like Trumpian populism, a response to such phenomena as globalization, the rising power of finance and technological change. Around the high-income world, including in the US, these forces have helped nurture an economy where the share of the wealth owned by the top one per cent of earners since 1980 doubled to nearly 40 per cent. The biggest winners have been the upper 0.0001 per cent, whose incomes soared during this period by 600 per cent while middle- and working-class wages stagnated. Democrats often neglect to acknowledge this trend accelerated under the “progressive” Barack Obama administration, which imposed regulatory restraints on energy, manufacturing and other blue-collar sectors while embracing the agenda of Wall Street and their allied tech oligarch firms. Both Sanders, in his 2016 race against Hillary Clinton, as well as Donald Trump, essentially ran against this highly disparate economy." Disparate? The Obama economy was corrupt, not disparate. It was designed to enrich the wealthy and enserf the middle and lower classes. "To the salt mines with you serfs" should have been the Obama motto. "Trump’s election changed the regulatory environment and, now, for the first time in decades, wages are currently rising faster for blue collar workers than for the upper echelons. Yet even so, the reality of most working families, burdened by rising costs and decades of stagnating incomes, remain precarious. Nearly 44 per cent of American workers aged 18 to 64 can barely make ends meet, according to a recent Brookings report." So, Trump reformed the tax code, and has cut federal regulations by more than 40% and the Common Man has done much better than under the various progressive, or fascistic Presidents of the past? If I knew nothing about first-year college economics I'd be shocked. But I do, so I am not. "The precarious nature of the “new” American economy is felt most deeply by young voters, a strong plurality of whom now favor Sanders. Millennials, the generation born after 1982, have been lagging behind their parents’ generations’ path to upward mobility ever since the Great Recession and this has not changed. Most people under 40, according to a recent Brookings study, are unlikely to do as well in their lifetime than their Baby Boomer or Generation X parents. Similar patterns can be seen in Australia, France and the UK, where far-left candidates have done very well among the young. Bolstered through instruction by neo-Marxist academics, this generation knows little or nothing about the tragic trajectory of the Soviet Union or Mao’s murderous regime. Support for capitalism among Millennials and Generation Z, the new generation arising after 2000, has dropped from 66 per cent in 2010 to barely 51 per cent today, notes Gallup. In contrast, older generations — many of whom witnessed the massive failures of Communist states — still favor free enterprise by two to one." Please call the "new" American economy what it is, the Barak Obama economy. This is an economy which was essentially structured by the Clinton and Bush administrations but which was formed by the Obama administration when it "imposed regulatory restraints on energy, manufacturing and other blue-collar sectors while embracing the agenda of Wall Street and their allied tech oligarch firms." Or as the conscious call it, the corrupt economy. The Obama economy was created in the effort to create a new feudal socio-economic system with features like a guaranteed income for life, and welfare benefits like housing, food assistance, and other benefits all in exchange for voting for the right party or person. This is very similar to the patron socio-economic systems we see in Latin America. There a Patron, controls the life of the individual and his family. The individual works, the Patron provides basic food, housing, medical care, and everything else the individual needs. There is little liberty and even less personal responsibility. This is just a modern iteration of ancient feudalism. When voting the individual is subservient to the Patron's desires and votes according to the Patron's dictates. "Remarkably, socialism is gaining adherents even in the upper middle-class and among the oligarchy. One critical component lies in detestation of all things Trump even among CEOs, most of whom, according to a recent Chief Executive survey, want him impeached. Corporate America is increasingly embracing the notion of a guaranteed income and is adopting politically correct positions on such things as immigration, particularly in tech and on Wall Street." This is not surprising at all. Corporatists have no interest in the free markets unless they are attempting to enter a new market. If not, then they want the markets as closed and impermeable as possible so no further disruptive competition can occur. They do not want the next Uber to appear in their areas of competition upsetting their apple carts. Better to suffer minor market losses and suffer a bit higher taxes to keep the roiling hoi polloi in check. If you want to see the economic system these people want Soylent Green is a fine depiction. "But the most important driver for socialism comes from the burgeoning green movement. Long dominated by the elite classes, environmentalists are openly showing themselves as watermelons — green on the outside, red on the inside. For example, the so called “Green New Deal” — embraced by Sanders, Warren and numerous oligarchs — represents, its author Saikat Chakrabarti suggests, not so much a climate as “a how-do-you-change-the entire-economy thing”. Increasingly greens look at powerful government not to grow the economy, but to slow it down, eliminating highly paid blue-collar jobs in fields like manufacturing and energy. The call to provide subsidies and make work jobs appeals to greens worried about blowback from displaced workers and communities." The greens, the climate hysterics, and their ilk are the worst in that the leaders of these movements have no interest in the "cause" whatsoever. They are interested in the power to control others and once they get it they will not waste it on the environment or the climate. They will use this power to control the people and make them serfs. This is what they want, and they are willing to say this, if only by accident an on occasion. They want the serfs, on reservations with little discretionary income. This is the best way to control them and limit them. The best film depicting this hell on Earth is Metropolis. Kotkin's cautionary tale is valuable. Sadly, the young are too badly indoctrinated, and too inexperienced to understand that they are skating on thin ice over the very maw of hell. We can vote in socialism or fascism, but we will have to fight our way out, and long before the epiphany, they will take all the weapons.
