Let’s Start Scrapping Streetcars
The idea that politicians will stop wanting to spend huge amounts of other peoples money is silly. At least as our current political system is configured. The incentives drive the politician and the bureaucrats to want more government with more employees and larger budgets. These factors are how both the politician and the bureaucrat gauge power. But at the end of the piece, the Antiplanner hits on the solution. "Unfortunately, Washington is run by politicians, not people responding to market demand, so that probably isn’t going to happen." Exactly, the politician and the bureaucrat are not responding to market demands. The solution is to spin these agencies off and make them responsive to market demands. We should have done this with Amtrak but did not, so it is now an incompetent parasite. Time to privatize transit, and allow it to flourish in the real world. We also need to remove transits monopoly.

"LEAKED AUDIO RECORDINGS OF RUSSIAN MERCS: Business Insider seems to think the recordings are authentic. Leaked audio recordings said to be of Russian mercenaries in Syria capture expressions of lament and humiliation over a battle in early February involving US forces and Russian nationals. Published by Polygraph.info — a fact-checking website produced by Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, news organizations that receive funding from the US government — the audio recordings paint a picture of Russian mercenaries essentially sent to die in an ill-conceived advance on a US-held position in Syria. Polygraph says the audio recordings are from a source close to the Kremlin. MORE: …apparent in the audio is displeasure with how Russia has responded to the situation. Initially, Russia denied that its citizens took part in the clash. Later, a representative said five may have died. Last week, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the fight left “several dozen wounded” and that some had died. The audio recordings, in which voices can be heard saying 200 people died “right away,” appear to back up reports from Reuters, Bloomberg, and the Pentagon that roughly 100 — if not more— Russians died in the fight. Reuters has cited sources as saying the advance’s purpose was to test the US’s response. SOME TRANSLATED AUDIO: …well … to make it short, we’ve had our asses f— kicked. So one squadron f— lost 200 people … right away, another one lost 10 people … and I don’t know about the third squadron, but it got torn up pretty badly, too … So three squadrons took a beating … The Yankees attacked … first they blasted the f— out of us by artillery, and then they took four helicopters up and pushed us in a f— merry-go-round with heavy caliber machine guns … They were all shelling the holy f— out of it, and our guys didn’t have anything besides the assault rifles … nothing at all, not even mentioning shoulder-fired SAMs or anything like that … So they tore us to pieces for sure, put us through hell, and the Yankees knew for sure that the Russians were coming, that it was us, f— Russians … Our guys were going to commandeer an oil refinery, and the Yankees were holding it … We got our f— asses beat rough, my men called me … They’re there drinking now … many have gone missing … it’s a total f— up, it sucks, another takedown … Everybody, you know, treats us like pieces of s— … They beat our asses like we were little pieces of s— … but our f— government will go in reverse now, and nobody will respond or anything, and nobody will punish anyone for this … So these are our casualties.'" Even with that felony fraud assist, she could not win! Neighbor with AR-15 Stops Knife Attack, Assailant Captured
"Dave Thomas said he saw a guy with a knife going after somebody else on the street near him. So he reached for what he thought was his most intimidating weapon and halted the assault, according to Chicago’s WGN-9 television news. “I ran back into the home, into my house, and grabbed my AR-15. Grabbed the AR-15 over my handgun. It’s just a bigger gun. I think a little bit more than an intimidation factor definitely played a part in [the man’s] actually stopping,” Thomas said, as quoted by WGN-9. The victim, a neighbor of Thomas, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and is expected to recover." Carjacking suspect shot dead by man with concealed gun
"Police Capt. Andra Williams says the 24-year-old man was heading to work shortly before 6am when Carlos Martin allegedly tried to rob him near Milwaukee MachineTool Corporation in the 8800 block of West Fond du Lac Avenue. The motorist thwarted the carjacking by shooting the 21-year-old suspect with his handgun, for which he has a valid concealed carry permit, according to the authorities." This is what concealed carry is for, to even the odds against feral criminals in our communities. The entire point of being the gangster is to make bad decisions. The point of concealed carry is to allow law-abiding citizens to counteract those bad decisions. This bad guy was clearly on the high side of the criminal Pareto Distribution. These people need to be permanently removed from society, by the courts if we are compassionate, by legal concealed carry if we are unwilling to let the courts do their jobs. Chevy Chase 'made racist remarks to Donald Glover'
By National Lampoon's Vacation, I'd forgotten, so I watched him again and laughed, but after that, he was mostly just an insufferable boor. I'd watch a movie because the other actors were good, but Chase was always a distraction from the quality of the acting. Good to know he is supremely insecure as well. I don't know what to think. Here at the end of the progressive era's culture wars humanity has frayed, and many have become feral. This will be a long hard row to hoe back to civility, and responsibility. |
