Gee, why would Americans find a bunch of old geezers still trying to figure out email out of touch?4/29/2017 Democratic Party Out of Touch "The Washington Post-ABC News survey, released this week, found that a majority of the public thinks the Democratic Party is out of touch with the concerns of average Americans in the United States. More Americans think Democrats are out of touch than believe the same of the Republican Party or President Trump." More below. Could it be that the Democratic Party's policies are still swirling the drain of 1972, a time when Nixon was not only President, but in good standing? Could it be that all of the party's national figures are really old? Could it be that the party's policies, and positions no longer speak to most Americans? Could it be the party's totalitarian authoritarianism is unacceptable to most Americans? What makes this even more difficult for the Democrats is the fact that their party stalwarts don't agree. "There is nuance to the results of the survey. A closer look at the numbers shows that while a majority of Americans believe the Democratic Party is out of touch, most Democrats do not, though that’s only by a slim majority." They like the direction, but Americans generally do not. "The perception might also be rooted in how much power Democrats have lost at the state and local level. The party’s grip on state legislatures eroded dramatically during the Obama administation. Voters may doubt that Democrats understand the challenges they face if the party lacks a substantial presence in their state. “I do think that there’s a lack of trust that has amplified and grown between voters in certain parts of the country and the party, but I think that’s fixable,” said Adam Parkhomenko, a former Hillary Clinton aide. “We have to have a big tent, and the national party has to support state and local parties so that we can invest in candidates who can compete everywhere in the country.'" That lack of trust in "certain parts of the country" is essentially the entire country except for a tiny few counties centered on the big cities. Below are the Clinton Archipelago, and the Great Trump Nation. These Detailed Maps Split the US Into TrumpLand and the Clinton Archipelago What is happening is the Democrats who live in the Clinton Archipelago never leave it, they live, and work in the echo chamber of the Archipelago, which has a high population density. The result is the Pauline Kaelization of the entire Democratic Party, and all of its adherents. Here in Portland, Oregon, the density of Clinton/Democratic Party supporters is amazingly high about 80%. This seems to be about par for Clintonian areas. But in Trumpland, the density of support for Trump is much lower about 60%. Where it appears high on the Tumpland map there are very few people.
What this means is the Trumplandians are constantly forced to interact with others, libertarians, classical liberals, the right, the left, essentially a wide variety of opinions. These lands are generally peaceful, and accepting of people with a wide variety of opinions. The Clintonians, on the other hand, live in an echo chamber where nearly everyone they meet is solidly Clintonian/Democratic Party. They hear only their opinions reflected back at them. The others are unwilling to raise a voice for fear that the violent Clintonians will assault them as they so often assaulted Trump supporters during the last election. These lands accept only their own opinions, and can be quite violent towards those with opposing opinions. "Representative Ryan thinks the party understands the financial hardship that many Americans face, and has better policy prescriptions to help them than the GOP. But he’s not convinced the party has persuaded voters of that: “It’s a real problem for us that we are perceived as limousine, latte-drinking liberals,” Ryan said. “Democrats can’t just message our way out of this. We need to put out bold and aspirational initiatives that will excite voters to the point they want to associate themselves with, and work for, the Democratic Party.” I am sure telling those that you are attempting to persuade that they must hew to the pro abortion cant will win the day. Analysis | Democrats’ self-inflicted abortion problem This is the shocking self-inflicted totalitarian problem of the Democratic Party. As I said earlier, the problem is the echo chamber, and the uniformity of opinion within it. These party leaders believe this is the right tact to take, because they know of no one who does not support this position. But outside of the Democratic Party, this position is not the mainstream, it is a minority position. While Trumplandians are accepting, they are not willing to live in the totalitarian dictatorship of the Democratic Party. And that is the real problem the Democratic Party faces, the fact that only about 30% of the American public is accepting of totalitarian authoritarianism that the Democratic Party stands for. Prior to the last election, the leaders of the Democratic Party were sufficiently in touch with the American people to realize that Americans would not tolerate this authoritarianism. Today's leaders do not. This seems to be a function of the party's ever leftward, authoritarian drift. As this authoritarianism became more acceptable in the party, the party stalwarts began to think it was also acceptable in America. It is not. But he Trumplandians are sufficiently accepting, and polite to let these party stalwarts say these idiotic things. They will not vote for those things, however. Frankly, polishing the economic policy brass, or buffing the inclusivity to a high gloss will not turn this ship. The ship is sailing in a direction which most American do not want, the party cannot understand this because the stalwarts don't know anyone who is not in the party. For quite a while, I assumed that the political shift that was obviously going to happen to one of the parties would happen in along the lines of the Whig to Republican Party shift in the 1850s, a vibrant active shift from one to the other. But I now realize that there is another way. The Democratic Party seems to be sailing off into the sunset, under full power, with barely enough aboard to control a few large cities. If this continues, I expect that more and more people will jump ship, and we are more likely to see a new party rise which will more responsibly handle the needs and desires of the two party system. This is not to say that the Democratic Party could not continue, because of the echo chamber effect, I suspect it could for quite a while as a rump party in California, parts of the Northeast corridor, and in some of the large cities. It will be interesting to find out how this story ends.
