. . . he is Turkish, but that does not appear relevant. "Suspect is Turkish, from Adana, Turkey, not Hispanic as reported by Police." I expect hispanic was reported by an eyewitness, but I don't know that.
This is incomprehensible. Perhaps it is some sort of honor/revenge event for something his ex-girlfriend said, or perhaps someone said something about him which caused his ex-GF to leave the relationship? He apparently was looking for someone specific, calling out a name. The story below indicates he had serious problems with his stepfather. Arcan seems a peach of guy, however: "The suspect, identified as Arcan Cetin, was arrested Saturday evening as he walked along a street in Oak Harbor. Metin will be turned over to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, according to Island County authorities." * * * Skagit County court records show Cetin has a criminal record that included three domestic-violence assault charges in both Burlington and Island County, with the victim identified as Cetin’s stepfather. He also was arrested for drunken driving. Island County District Court records show that Cetin was told by a judge on Dec. 29 that he was not to possess a firearm. However, Cetin’s stepfather urged the judge not to impose a no-contact order, saying his stepson was “going through a hard time” and that he couldn’t help him with the order in place. Cetin’s Facebook page says he was a 2015 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. A couple years ago, Marty Baldwin said he allowed the suspected gunman, who was homeless at the time, to move in with him and his wife. But Baldwin kicked him out a few months later after learning the younger man was using and selling drugs, he said." Suspect in mall shooting arrested; community mourns victims A real peach. Looks like stepson decided to take an action which obviates any need for a no-contact order. There is apparently a death penalty moratorium in place in Washington State so it appears that Arcan will likely receive life. Perhaps fitting, now he will have plenty of time to stew, and figure out the solutions to all of his problems. Five families destroyed, all because one man is incapable of controlling himself. How he obtained the three firearms will be an open investigation for a while, his stepfather/father (the guns owner, it is unclear who it was) may have much to account for, and the families of the victims may come calling. I would feel sympathy for him, but I cannot, the guns should never have been accessible to a man like Arcan. Based on both the court order, and his criminal record, he could never have legally bought, or possessed a firearm, he should never have had access to one through family.
