Oregon Man Arrested For Starting 7 Fires; Police Recover Molotov Cocktail
I suspect that people who do not live in a high wildfire zone and who do not have a huge number of homeless people living in homeless slums around their cities do not have to deal with this problem. But we in Portlandia have both and when wildfires become a problem, the mentally ill/deranged homeless often start fires. A week or more ago now, I was riding Cerberus down Hwy 26 into Portland, there was a fire at the peace sign exit as the Hwy splits to I-405 S, Market Street, and I-405 N. There is a homeless slum in the wildland triangles between the exits, and a tree and grassy area was on fire. This is such a common summer phenomenon that I did not even think about it until I read this article. The homeless often cause these fires, and often burn up their shanty towns in the process. Portlandia has endless homeless shanty towns in all of the wild public spaces around the freeways. Most of the big fires in Oregon over the past few weeks were likely naturally caused by winds dropping trees on powerlines, or perhaps people negligently starting fires. There has been a lot of press about Burn-Loot-Murder/Klantifa starting these fires, and there is some evidence that at least on fire in Washington was started by arsonists, but I doubt this is the root of most of these fires. When we have humidity in the single-digit range and winds in the 30-50 mph range, almost anything will start a fire, which will quickly rage out of control. One of the people evacuating a fire zone started a fire when their motorhome towing a jeep had a mechanical failure that sent out some sparks. It burned up the motorhome, the jeep and a significant amount of land where they pulled off the highway, including some structures. This should have been avoided by the escapees maintaining their vehicles but then that seems to be asking too much. Until I see evidence that these fire were arson caused, I will keep my powder dry. It is easy to get one's bloomers in a knot about a fantasy. The homeless problem in Portlandia is just about as significant as the Burn-Loot-Murder/Klantifa problem, which is saying something! Both of these problems are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Democratic Party.
