Girl, 7, in coma after pickup truck sped around school bus and hit her
The solution is to have students transported to their homes. We have the technology to do this now, although the cost is a big higher than is desirable today. However, getting rid of costly school buses, drivers, mechanics, and the land and garages necessary to support the school bus system would go a long ways towards paying for the cost of the shift to direct pickup/drop off at students homes.
We should be charging the wealthy, the middle class for this service and providing a sliding scale reduction in cost for the "poor" depending upon their annual income.
These services should be provided not by the school district but by the private sector.
The self-drive car will all but eliminate the need for the school bus. Can we get on with the self-drive car now?!!!
