This is a very serious downside of the Trump Presidency. He will need to be restrained here, or we stand to pay a dear price. Unfortunately, Hillary was little better regarding trade, and far worse regarding nearly every other policy both domestic, and foreign. 

The solution for Trump is not tariffs, and trade wars, but simply to eliminate the US corporate income tax (all income taxes to be truthful), and this will strongly encourage manufacturing businesses with substantial sales, or ties to the US to relocate to the US. We currently have an excellent skilled workforce, very low energy prices, high quality manufacturing, and with no income tax a perfect reason for most manufacturing businesses to relocate. 

This would accomplish Trumps goals of rekindling the employment of the manufacturing section, without the need for damaging tariffs or the resulting devastating trade wars.
