Gun Violence In California
If the law illegalizes owning or possessing or carrying defensive weapons, the mass murders do not need to worry about the people shooting back. This is the reason so many mass murders happen in "gun-free zones." To the sociopath or psychopath here is little difference between a "gun-free zone and the lobster tank at the local restaurant both are enclosed areas where the intended victim cannot fight back, at least legally. I do not need to go to California so, feel free to make the entire state a gun-free zone and suck the whackjobs out of the surrounding states, please. The state's progressive policies have made the state a magnet for the "homeless" why not for sociopathic and psychopathic mass murders as well?! Do the nation a favor, Cali, bite the bullet, go full progressive! "For 20 years, I have been writing that people who are going to kill other people with guns don’t give a hoot about gun laws. After all, at the risk of belaboring the obvious, if a person doesn’t care about obeying a law against murder, he’s not going to care about violating a law against taking an assault rifle into a food festival. But ordinary, law-abiding people do care about obeying gun laws. That’s because many of these laws make it a felony offense to violate them. That means jail time, big fines, and a serious criminal record. Even when it’s just a misdemeanor offense, oftentimes a conviction can also mean jail time. For most people, violating the law in order to have a means of self-defense is just not worth the risk. The chances of being caught in a place where some mass murderer is indiscriminately shooting people is relatively low and, therefore, not enough to justify the risk of a felony conviction if caught with, say, a concealed handgun for self-defense. Thus, as we learn, once again, gun-control laws destroy people’s natural, God-given right of self-defense by disarming them, while, at the same time, do nothing to dissuade a mass murderer from wreaking his deadly mayhem on innocent, disarmed victims." This is entry-level crime psychology, the criminal goes where the crime is easy, not where it is a challenge. These people are not looking for a difficult challenge like climbing K2; they are looking for something easy. While the author gets this part right, his deep dive into causation is silly. The root is simple: First, with 320 million people, you will have a lot of sociopaths and psychopaths. Second, the USA is unique; it is a nation where nearly everyone who lives here is a descendant of someone who decided to leave his homeland and make a difficult, often dangerous trek to scratch out an existence in a faraway land. The people who came to America were risk-takers, who hated authority, and the authoritarians of their homelands. We see this outcome in our risk and fatality statistics. Americans are far more willing to take risks than are most other peoples in the world. I suspect we are genetically predisposed to risk-taking. Third, although we are genetic risk-takers and anti-authoritarians, a significant 25% or so of Americans are pro-authoritarians who want nothing more than to control the rest with draconian and highly restrictive laws and rules - the gun controllers and fun suckers. (Every 80 years the nation goes through a cycle where these fun suckers machinations slowly help them gain power to the point that we end up in the Culture Wars which trigger a Crisis. We just ended the Culture Wars; we are now in the beginning phase of the Crisis. The phases of this cycle are straightforward - 20 years of Crisis, followed by 20 years of Rebuilding, followed by 20 years of Rebellion/Spiritual Awakening, a childish rebellion at the strictures necessary for the Rebuilding, followed by 20 years of Culture Wars, which is the direct result of the personal excesses of the selfish Rebellion/Spiritual Awakening, and back to Crisis. We should have ended the Culture Wars in 2008, but Obama carried this horror forward for another 8+ years. This was a profound failing of King Barak the Incompetent.) The rise of violent crime tracks the Rebellion/Spiritual Awakening, and Culture Wars rise; it is contained during the Crisis and Rebuilding. The USA began resolving our violent crime problem back in 1995, but parts of it continue to show its ugly face and will continue to do so until we take control of the excesses of the past 50 years, resolve them through the Crisis, and begin the Rebuilding. On the other hand, this violent crime is still at historic lows in America, we forget or misunderstand this due to the 24-hour news cycles need for eyeballs which causes the media to incessantly run any story with violence attached. Violent crime looks worse now because the media pays every incidence so much attention. It is a manufactured crisis, and no progressive worth his salt will let a crisis go to waste.
