This will cause progressive heads to explode, but the sad part of this is that those heads care nothing for the actual minimum wage workers, they care only for the union's power, and what the unions want, and they want higher minimum wages for a variety of reasons. 

For the minimum wage workers, increasing the minimum wage seems like a no brainer, it seems like it would mean more pay, but it nearly always means less hours, more automation, fewer workers, and those workers who win the lottery and retain work will have to work harder, in a much more competitive environment. This means people with fewer skills, and people who need more training to be base level minimum wage workers will be much less employable. These people are more commonly blacks, coloreds, lower class, and the like. These policies essentially make the lives of these people more difficult, and for no good reason. 

While reducing, or better yet, eliminating the minimum wage will not stop technological progress, or reduce automation, raising the minimum wage to $15, or more will certainly turbocharge it.

Perhaps I am more compassionate towards the minimum wage worker, but I would rather allow them more time to build skills, and allow them the alternative of low wage to encourage employers to take the risk on these low skill workers. Then the worker can prove his worth, and gain a better position. 

Progressives, on the other hand, simply do not care about the actual outcomes these people will face. Their interests are in their monied friends in the unions who can help them finance the political goals they desire.
