Norwegian newspapers react in shock to Trump win

Good lord, relax, breathe. Trump is nothing like your fears, you are frightened by a dystopian fantasy you have concocted deep within the id. Keep breathing.

Trump's transition is not just going well, but excellent. He is making some of the best choices possible. He is a measured, careful man who by all accounts will make a fine President. Much better than our current lead from behind ditherer.

You are correct in one respect, however. "One would be hard pressed to find economists who think protectionism of the Trump type will create growth and jobs. Close to all models point in the opposite direction,” the newspaper said in its editorial." His trade policies are 16th century mercantilist, not modern. But he is a seasoned man, who is very good at finding, employing, delegating to, and listening to his advisors, and subordinates. I am optimistic that these people will help him come to an understanding that free trade is mandatory for the prosperity of the nation, and that imports are wealth, not exports.

I fully expect Trump and his advisors to find a solution which will allow continued free trade but which will also help those in middle America's manufacturing sector which have been left behind. Frankly, it is not the trade which has done this but Mr. Obama's failed domestic economic policies, and excessive regulations on businesses, and individuals. This has crimped off the natural change from manufacturing to the new economy. As old manufacturing jobs faltered, the new economy jobs, and import driven jobs failed to materialize because of these bad policies.

Reducing regulations, streamlining the tax code, smoothing imports, eliminating tariffs, and eliminating the corporate tax code would bring back jobs, and make middle America much more prosperous, quickly. There are a few other things he could do as well, but this is a very good start.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Oh, and to my readers in Lillehammer, and Gausdal, have a good Thanksgiving, whether you celebrate the American holiday or not!
