80,000 gather for Catalan pro-independence demo

Brits, Trumpers, and now Catalans, welcome to the club boys, enjoy the ride. 

"Around 80,000 people rallied in Barcelona on Sunday in a show of support for Catalan leaders locked in a tug-of-war with Madrid over independence for their region, police said."

The only way for disparate people with separate cultures, ideas, religions, and customs to live under one national roof is to create a system like the US, a weak federal system where the federal only addresses a few things the states cannot like foreign policy, and interstate commerce. This allows these internal differences. Allowing the federal to become authoritarian, and powerful assures the internal fracturing of the government. The EU cannot weather this, nor can the Spanish government due to the fact they are too authoritarian.

In fact, the US has become so authoritarian in its federal government over the past few decades that we too are in danger of fracturing. Perhaps more than anything Trump could create a legacy by reinvigorating the flexibility of the old US federal system allowing us to once again live together under one roof. 

The protesting anti-rump authoritarians do not want this. They want to tell the rest of the country how to behave, how to act, what to believe, and what to say among myriad other things. They are the problem. The solution is individual liberty, with attached personal responsibility within the frame work of republican governance, reformed religions, and free markets free of the taint of socialist cronyism.
