The Two Girls in Morocco
This is the problem with unreformed religions, they spawn incredibly violent, malevolent actions. It is long past time for the "reasonable" Muslims to step forward and begin a reformation and correction process. As yet, I see no action by these putatively "reasonable" Muslims. What I see is a tacit acceptance of violence as an attempt to assuage the Islamist's self-hatred, and need for violence. If the Islamist violence does not stop, soon, there will be a tear in the social fabric of the West. This traditionally results in an existential world war which ends shockingly poorly for the miscreants at the focus of the West's existential angst. We are willing to let the Muslims figure out their reformation, but if they cannot, we will figure it out for them after a hot war which will likely melt the faces from their Imams. And we will sleep well after having done so.

Trump Threatens Southern Border Shutdown
Government is shut down and soon the Mexican/USA border will be shut down. The people don't care a whit about the government shut down and never will. The border shut down, however, will cause problems. The Dems will soon find none of the positives accrue to them, while all of the negatives do! Enjoy the crow. In a world of fake news, only a real fake news outlet dares tell the truth! Trump says 'big progress' on possible China trade deal
China cannot support its people without the USA buying its products in high numbers. The EU is too old and is demographically dying to step in and save China. Russia is dying both demographically and economically. The rest of the world is not sufficiently wealthy to want to buy Chinese goods but instead are competitors in the manufacturing and assembly areas. China had to try to break Trump, the American Presidents over the past few decades have been unbelievably weak and malleable on trade. But Trump is not they. Instead, Trump is the first American President since Reagan focused on the achievable goals with the strength of character to stay the course to achieve those goals. China will continue to try and cheat any agreement, so we will need to be vigilant but a deal will happen, and it will look much like what Trump wants. The Trump Presidency will have many legacies; fewer trade restrictions will be one of them. Why (Most) Right-Wing Intellectuals Hate Trump
Intellectuals are seldom productive individuals as viewed through the eyes of the average man. This is not always true, on occasion, a Jordan Peterson arises from the Academe and provides great value to the individual. Americans do not value most academic disciplines, this is especially true of the humanities, and social sciences. Then again, if the professors in their disciplines had kept themselves and their studies relevant to middle America, this would not be a problem. Instead, they chased a phantom down the rabbit hole and now do not like that middle America sees no value in what they say. Until they have their Come to Jesus perhaps it is best to say, "Sod off Swampy!" The ballad of “Sod off, Swampy” “Sod off, Swampy” Posted on March 20, 2017 I’d always thought it was Australian, but turns out it’s English. Here is a telling of the origin of the phrase. It came after a 2005 invasion of the International Petroleum Exchange trading floor in London. This is the key moment but the entire article bears reading through: The trespassers were set upon by traders, most of whom were under the age of 25. “They were kicking and punching men and women,” said a photographer, according to The Times of London. “It was really ugly. … They followed the [Greenpeace] guys into the lobby and kept kicking and punching them there. They literally kicked them on to the pavement.” “The violence was instant,” reported one aggrieved recipient of a rain of blows to the head. “I’ve never seen anyone less amenable to listening to our point of view.” “Sod off, Swampy!” shouted one tardy trader, steadying himself against the railings of the balcony of the pub across the street as his colleagues threw the protesters bodily onto the sidewalk. (Swampy was an enviro-protester who gained fame by living unbathed in a tunnel for eight months.) But here is the Australian connection: ‘I understand that some enterprising manufacturer in Australia is already making “Sod off, Swampy!” T-shirts’. I hope he sold a million. UPDATE: This has now been added to the comments thread at Instapundit so it may yet be an Australianism after all: I heard Sod Off Swampy decades ago on Crocodile Dundee, so I have doubts about the origin of the expression given in the article. [Via Instapundit] I never saw Trump as a peacenik!
Most people are seldom politically persuasive and have no reason to be persuasive. Around here, people live in a left progressive political bubble. They are surrounded by people who all parrot the same things. Over time even the nuttiest ideas can begin to sound rational if regurgitated often enough. Trump, however, is persuasive and knows how to set people up to be persuaded. Trump sees bringing peace to long-term conflicts like the Koreas, and Isreal/Palestine as not only good for the people involved, and good for the world generally but also good for the Trump legacy. Win/win is good, win/win/win is better, and, so, Trump pursues the better solution. Happiness is a temporal break from the vicissitudes of daily life; it is not a metric to live by!12/28/2018 Can Intelligence Buy You Happiness?
Intelligence can buy you happiness if it provides a temporal break from the vicissitudes of life. But this requires that intelligent people have few friends, and focus on a life of the mind. If an intelligent person follows this prescription, everyone around him will assume he is unhappy because he has few friends and will attempt to cheer him up by dragging him to parties, and soirees. This will make him unhappy which will trigger further rounds of soirees and parties which will trigger unhappiness. So, no. Happiness is not a metric to live by, joy, contentment, and other similar metric are valuable life tools. Happiness is something we should embrace when it appears like magic after a well-produced play, film, musical piece, or friendly conversation distract us from life's drudgery. We should not chase it, however. |
