He says that if a legal gun owner had been shot by police, but if that person wasn’t a black man, the gun lobby would be up in arms (so to speak). He says the lack of outcry from the NRA is deafening… What do you think? Should the pro-Second Amendment groups be outraged about Philando Castile’s death?'" In the video: Castile: Hands the officer a document, and the officer looks at the document. Castile: Sir, I have to tell you, I do have a firearm on me . . . Officer: Ok . . . Don't reach for it then. . . Don't pull it out . . . Don't pull it out Castile is apparently reaching for something as the officer says this, and in response the officer pulls his gun, and because Castile continues to reach into his pocket, the officer fires 7 times. What happened here was a tragedy. The thing which stands out is the need for individuals carrying concealed to inform an officer that they are carrying concealed in a non confrontational manner, while keeping their hands in clear sight of the officer so he will not become frightened and shoot as this officer did. The video below shows how to do this in a non confrontational manner, and in a way in which the officer will feel in control. The rules are simple and MUST be followed all the time. Frankly, the quality of police officer is highly variable, and it is up to the concealed carry holder to make even the poorest trained, least experienced officer feel safe, and in control of the situation.
1. Provide drivers license, and Concealed Handgun License documents together, beneath them you should also include your insurance documents (and later when asked registration documents). 2. While keeping both hands in the officers sight, inform the officer you are carrying, and the location of the weapon - "I am carrying, it is on my right hip. 3. Ask the officer how he wants to proceed. 4. If the officer asks for something, for instance your registration documents, tell him what you are doing, "I need to get the registration out of the glove box, is that OK?" When he agrees, only then should you reach for the glove box. Again, keep both hands in plain sight. Left hand on the wheel or gripping the window is a good idea. Castile broke all of the rules, he informed the officer in the most concerning manner ". . . I do have a firearm on me . . ." He did not keep his hands in plain sight. He did not stop reaching into his pockets when the officer became obviously frightened by Castile's actions. He never allowed the officer to feel safe, and in control of the situation. The video ends with "The officer just wants to home safely each night." That is what became a problem in the Castile event. Castile was reaching for something, and the officer believed it was the gun, so he shot. Noah is an ass, whether Castile had been white, black, or an outer space alien, gun owners of all color understand that Castile tried to do the right thing but failed. The officer should have simply backed off, but did not, and instead fired his weapon even though Castile never drew his. Police are given much deference in this by juries. This is not as likely to be given to gun owners in a similar situation with a potential criminal. Gun owners understand these differences, and accept them. This was a death which did not have to occur, and should not have occurred, but Mr. Castile's skin color did not play a role in how the gun community sees this playing out. Noah is an obvious racist, and commonly says racist thing, this is just one of many. His attempt to foment black blowback against the NRA, and gun owners is a common ploy by racists like Noah to control the black community. I hope it doesn't work.
