Monday morning links - Maggie's Farm DHS: 2.6 Million H-1B Foreign Workers Approved to Enter US in Last Decade
A few H-1B visas and American kids can't get jobs? Bullshit. It might be that high school teachers are giving A when the students deserve Ds. It could be that University Professors are indoctrinating, not teaching. It could be that American kids are pampered, spoiled, and treated like petite emperors when they need a healthy dose of reality? The reasons little Johnny and Joannie can't get a job are they don't apply themselves, they don't work hard, they don't learn, and they can't think for themselves. When left to their own devices these kids want to study STEM, but high school has failed to prepare them. These kids cannot succeed in STEM and change majors to something easy but useless like Gay Wymen's Studies, Medieval French Poetry, or some other twaddle. Employers are left to either take these lumps of clay and spent a decade teaching them what they need to know or hiring an educated adult from another country who is ready to work. Yeah, tough choice. The H-1B visa holders are our salvation from ourselves and our failed educational institutions. Get a grip! College Paper Calls Out "Cognitive Privilege" of Smart People
Luckily, at our august Universities, the professors know nothing and teach it to their students, who lap it up like good sycophants. Opinion | How We Are Ruining America
Progressive Boomers have spoiled America, on that, we agree. As to whether middle America is put off by big words like soppressata, or coppa, I reserve judgment. More commonly middle America is put off by the price of an $18 sandwich which they could make at home for less than a buck. Middle Americans are frugal and well mannered. Brooks and his coterie of snug sphinctered dilettantes love to spend large on something silly like a sandwich or bottle of wine believing they their refined tastes demand this excess. They do not; they cannot tell the difference between imported Coppa and American Coppa. Likewise, they cannot taste the difference between plonk and "fine" wine. Hell, they often can't tell a white wine colored red in a tasting "flight" of red wines. Wine-tasting: it's junk science More below. Hypnotized by Elon Musk’s Hyperloop
If you rely on the modern definition of sustainable: something which requires a massive and increasing public subsidy, Hyperloop is sustainable. If on the other hand, were we drowning in a sea of federal debt, pension debt, state debt, municipal debt, credit card debt, auto debt, education debt, just to name a few, more debt might be a bad idea. Hyperloop will require massive debt. Hyperloop is just a train with fancier infrastructure and the inability to carry freight. Why would we follow this course? Rail was a momentous advent in the 19th century, it is outdated today, no matter how futuristic. Absent the ability to carry freight rail is antediluvian. If The Universe Is Expanding, Then Why Aren't We?
I hate to break it to you we are expanding, rapidly. Why Don’t Whales Get Out of the Way? | Hakai Magazine
It's an enigma, wrapped in a conundrum, swaddled in a mystery. House Dem: ‘Extremist’ John Kelly Will ‘Militarize’ the White House
"Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) denounced President Donald Trump’s selection of Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly to replace Reince Priebus as his new White House chief of staff Friday and accused Trump of “militarizing the White House” through the appointment of such an “extremist.'" She huffed, and she puffed, and she blew herself down! Lee's one dim woman. I have no idea what she means by this silly rumination. Perhaps she is worried we will soon see Trump driving around in a mini tank on the White House lawn? Who knows with Lee? If you really need to know the medical terms for bodily functions, you've come to the right place!7/30/2017 Why First World Countries Have Third World Cities
"As I avoided the potholes, ignored the sounds of guns, and walked past beggars throughout the streets of New Orleans, I could not help but be reminded of my travels in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. With their mass poverty and crumbling infrastructure, the two cities differ in one key area: Phnom Penh is in a developing country and New Orleans is in a developed country. Throughout the United States, I frequently come across what I call "third world cities in first world countries" - whether it is Detroit, Baltimore, or even my beloved New Orleans. These third world cities all have one thing in common: an absence of free and open markets. There is a wide consensus amongst economists that economic freedom largely determines the wealth of nations and metropolitan areas are no exception to this rule. As Economist Dean Stansel, in his paper, "An Economic Freedom Index for U.S. Metropolitan Areas," states, “higher levels of local economic freedom are found to be correlated with positive economic outcomes.'" Controlled markets, unionized labor force, regulated minimum wage, high tax rates, extensive occupational licensing laws, an Orwellian education system, incompetent government with high spending, and deficits all lay the ground work to create a third world city in the heart of a first world country. Socialism is a wealth consumer, not a generator. Do we want the devastating results which come from a socialist state? Thanks: Instapundit |
