Hat brand Kangol returns jobs to U.S. but is struggling
"When the famous hat brand worn by celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson, Brad Pitt and Gwen Stefani moved into a Pennsylvania factory last year from China, executives with the Bollman Hat Co. billed it as an effort to create U.S. manufacturing jobs. But as labor costs went up, profits went down. Way down. The 149-year-old company behind Kangol says it's losing money on every kangaroo-logo cap knitted at its factory in Adamstown, 60 miles west of Philadelphia. * * * Employment is down 85 per cent since 1990 - the biggest decline of any manufacturing sector - as cost-cutting apparel companies shifted production to Asia in search of cheaper labor. Bollman spends about $11 an hour per worker in Pennsylvania vs. $2.60 in China." More below. Devastated mum claims baby son born one week before abortion limit was 'left to die, gasping for breath'
Many countries in the EU have adopted policies which deny medical care for newborn infants under specific weight, and/or under specific number of weeks gestation. They do this for two reasons, first to save money, and second to inflate their infant mortality statistics. More below. Act III: "Vili Fualaau, 33, filed an official request for a legal separation from 55-year-old Mary Kay Letourneau on May 9, court records show. * * * Fualaau, now working at a home and garden centre, said in his application that the couple's two daughters are no longer dependent on them. He asked the court for a fair division of the couple's joint assets." Good luck. If it's ghost towns you need, come on out, we've loads of them here in Oregon. Sadly, some of the more interesting, like the company town of Valsetz, Oregon were bulldozed by the company. I use my kids to get me an upgrade to first class. Maddog story at the link below. Traveling with children is always a blast Ok, I agree that the kids haven't work long enough, or hard enough to get the luxurious perk like first class air flights, and treating them to these things is not a positive. Kids need to learn how difficult it is to earn the money necessary to pay for these things before they are set loose to buy them. Otherwise one might have to keep them like the lepidopterist keeps butterflies in a box with a pin holding them to a board. I would rather have children who are independent, not dependent. |
