The true legacy of Gov. Jerry Brown
"The cracks in the 50-year-old Oroville Dam, and the massive spillage and massive evacuations that followed, shed light on the true legacy of Jerry Brown. The governor, most recently in Newsweek, has cast himself as both the Subcomandante Zero of the anti-Trump resistance and savior of the planet. But when Brown finally departs Sacramento next year, he will be leaving behind a state that is in danger of falling apart both physically and socially. More below.

The raccoon raider! Mammal tries to steal a kayaker's food One of the first outdoor excursions I took Maddogswif on was to canoe the Alsea River from near the headwaters to the tide waters down in Waldport, Oregon. As expected by everyone but Maddogswif, the raccoons were thick each night. They would fight and fume while looking for scraps, and she would dive under into the sleeping bag claiming it was bears. So, I took the light, and we went out to confront the bears, er raccoons. Pretty funny. The rule is no food in the tent, ever. They will rip a hole in a tent to get after food, even if it is just the smell of a single 4 year old M&M. No food in the tent, ever! Actually, the trip was a great success, we trapped, and ate crayfish, and watched salmon heading up river to spawn sit at the top of each riffle. It was a good trip, and she enjoyed it enough to let me eventually propose, and marry her. Ok, that might be too much to attribute to a single trip, but . . . Everywhere I go on kayak expeditions in North America, I find raccoons, often even on the most remote islands. So, I hang my food, and cook away from camp. Problem generally solved, until I bring a noncompliant "friend" along, then I have to shoo the raccoons out of the tent, and he/she usually has to sleep in a near destroyed sleeping bag (where he/she was hiding the loot). How did they survive? High-speed train smashes into driver Dodge around that pesky stop barrier, then slow down going over the tracks, and . . . BOOM!!! Nicely punted off the roadway leaving things clear for the sane drivers. And how about a self drive bus? Cops: Mom used girl's breath to start car with DUI device

"A Florida woman was arrested after shooting her husband twice during an argument about the man's pregnant mistress, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office said. Tina Poirier, 28, was taken into custody at her Winter Park home on Saturday night after an argument she was having with her 48-year-old husband, Dennis Lugo, turned violent. When deputies arrived at about 9.45pm, Poirier said that she and Lugo were fighting about Lugo's mistress, who is pregnant with the man's second child, officials said. It is unclear who the mother of Lugo's first child is. During the argument, Poirier grabbed a gun from the couple's bedroom nightstand and fired shots at Lugo, according to an affidavit obtained by My News 13. Lugo suffered gunshot wounds to his wrist and the left side of his chest and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition." * * * "According to Poirier's Facebook, she is an aspiring model, actress and drag racer. Lugo's occupation is unknown." A drag racer? Photo of the loving couple below: HALF of college students think student loans will be forgiven
This is parental malpractice. Every young adult heading off to college should know exactly what the consequences for all the actions they are likely to take, from consumer debt, to student debt, to drinking on campus, drink driving, and on, and on. I am always surprised by how naive young adults are as to the actual consequence of their actions, particularly things like student loans. More below. Plan accordingly. I skied for years, and have dozens of permanent injuries, dislocated joints, fractures, concussions, torn ligaments, and muscles to prove it. While I loved it, I always knew it was dangerous. Teen survives driving car off parking garage and falling seven stories
This is a wake up call - some people should not drive! The construction is unreinforced concrete block? Really? Dude? Apparently the idea is with the concrete pillar and post construction of the garage, the exterior is nothing more and cladding, not structural. But with human drivers, reinforcing the concrete block would likely stop the car from blowing through the building exterior wall. As would a self drive car, since it would not make the attempt. I love the comment about how it's the cars fault for "sudden acceleration." This is BS, sudden acceleration is 99+% of the time due to driver error. Applying the gas instead of the brake is a recipe for disaster which has been in the driving lexicon for ages. Everyone blames the car, when the fault is theirs.
